Job summary

Detroit Engineered Products (DEP) is seeking an experienced design engineer to develop exterior trim components for automotive applications. You will work in CATIA V5 to translate engineering directions into CAD models and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet functional and manufacturing requirements.

The role involves participating in reviews, maintaining vehicle context integration, and managing release and change processes while applying GD&T and driving continuous

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 yrs experience in New Part Development.
• Strong knowledge of automotive standards, safety requirements and regulations.
• Strong communication skills are mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing exterior trim components such as bumpers, grilles, cladding, functional trims etc.
• Understanding geometric requirements within the vehicle context as defined by engineering requirements.
• Developing CAD design in CATIA based on engineering directions.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure design meets functional and manufacturing requirements.
• Participating in design reviews to gather feedback and make revisions.
• Populating the Design in Vehicle context and attaching to Digital vehicle structure.
• Managing the release process for chassis components and change management.
• Applying GD&T for completed designs.
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance design.

Skill Set

• Extensive experience in design and development of Automotive exterior trims.
• Strong knowledge of automotive standards, safety requirements and regulations.
• Minimum 5 yrs experience in New Part Development.
• Strong communication skill is mandatory. *Exceptional CATIA V5 Skills. 3DX experience is good to have.
• Good Knowledge in GD&T, Teamcenter & Vismockup.
• Highly committed and motivated. Should be a self-starter.
• Final job family will be decided based on the experience of the candidate.

Domain knowledge

• Strong understanding of plastic product design and manufacturing processes.
• Should be able to independently design exterior trims and to take technical decisions with D&R Engineers and suppliers as required.
• Prior experience of performing benchmarking, packaging studies on exterior trims and defining their locations in vehicle.
• Conversant with Vehicle Architecture, Vehicle Aggregate Groups, Sub- Groups, Systems and Sub- Systems.
• Good experience in working with styling and design teams to translate aesthetic concepts into functional designs.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, project management and communication skills.
• Proficient in deciding manufacturing feasibility, assembly and service feasibility.
