Job summary

Apollo Hospitals in Chennai is seeking an experienced MEP Manager for Healthcare Projects to lead planning, design coordination and execution of hospital MEP systems across new builds and renovations.

You will ensure NABH/JCI compliance, coordinate with consultants and hospital user teams, validate load calculations, and manage budgets, timelines, safety and quality for multi‑disciplinary hospital environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.
• Additional certification in MEP/Project Management preferred.

Job Title: MEP Manager Healthcare Projects

Department: Projects & Engineering Location: Corporate / Project Site

Job Purpose

To lead, coordinate, and manage all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for hospital construction and renovation projects, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, operational efficiency, safety norms, and accreditation requirements (NABH/JCI), while delivering projects within approved timelines and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

1. MEP Planning & Design Coordination

• Review and finalize MEP designs in coordination with consultants and hospital user teams.
• Ensure alignment of HVAC, MGPS, Electrical, Fire, and Plumbing systems with hospital functional requirements.
• Validate load calculations, equipment sizing, and redundancy planning.
• Coordinate with Biomedical & IT teams for integration of medical equipment and ELV systems.

2. HVAC & Critical Care Systems

• Ensure OT-compliant HVAC systems (laminar airflow, HEPA filtration, pressure gradients).
• Oversee ICU ventilation and isolation room negative/positive pressure requirements.
• Ensure temperature and humidity controls as per healthcare norms.

3. Electrical & Power Systems

• Supervise installation of HT/LT panels, transformers, DG sets, and UPS systems.
• Ensure N+1 redundancy for critical hospital areas.
• Oversee earthing, lightning protection, and power quality compliance.
• Coordinate integration with BMS (Building Management System).

4. Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS)

• Oversee design and installation of oxygen, medical air, vacuum, and other gas systems.
• Ensure compliance with HTM/NFPA or applicable standards.
• Conduct pressure testing, safety audits, and commissioning protocols.

5. Fire & Life Safety Systems

• Ensure compliance with Fire Department norms.
• Supervise fire alarm, sprinkler, hydrant, and smoke extraction systems.
• Conduct mock drills and system testing before handover.

6. Plumbing & Drainage

• Ensure proper medical-grade plumbing installations.
• Monitor sewage treatment plants (STP), water treatment systems, and rainwater harvesting.
• Ensure compliance with Pollution Control Board regulations.

7. Execution & Site Management

• Monitor MEP contractors and subcontractors.
• Ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections and progress reviews.
• Certify contractor bills and manage variation approvals.

8. Testing, Commissioning & Handover

• Lead pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
• Ensure system integration testing.
• Prepare O&M manuals, as-built drawings, and handover documentation.
• Support accreditation audits (NABH/JCI).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.
• Additional certification in MEP/Project Management preferred.
• Knowledge of healthcare codes & standards.

Experience

• 10-15 years of MEP experience in construction.
• Minimum 5+ years in hospital/healthcare projects.
• Experience handling large multi-specialty hospital projects preferred.
