Job summary

Nxtra Data in India (Kolkata) is seeking a Senior Project Manager (MEP) to own end-to-end MEP delivery for large data center projects. You will lead multi-discipline teams, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence across all phases.

Experience in hyperscale data center environments, extensive MEP knowledge, and senior leadership capabilities are essential for delivering reliable, scalable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Mandatory degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 20+ years of MEP delivery experience for data centers or mission-critical projects.
• PMP or equivalent certification is an advantage.
• Experience leading multi-project teams, EPC vendors, and consultants.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and governance for all MEP construction and commissioning activities across data center projects, ensuring scope, timelines, budgets, and quality.
• Oversee complex MEP systems including high-density HVAC, electrical distribution, substations, DG sets, UPS, fire protection, plumbing, and ELV.
• Drive multi-project planning and resource optimization in coordination with Civil, Structural, Design, Procurement, and Operations teams.
• Ensure constructability, energy efficiency, scalability, and reliability of MEP systems per hyperscale standards.
• Lead vendor, EPC, and consultant management including commercial evaluations and contract compliance.
• Establish and monitor cost control, value engineering, and risk mitigation plans.
• Champion EHS excellence, ensure statutory compliance, and foster a safety culture with zero incidents.
• Provide executive-level progress reporting, dashboards, and MIS to senior management highlighting risks and mitigation actions.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, and handover readiness to meet performance and reliability criteria.
• Mentor and develop senior project managers and technical leaders within MEP.

Project Manager (MEP) is a senior leadership role responsible for end-to-end ownership of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) delivery for large-scale, missioncritical Data Center projects. The role encompasses strategic planning, execution governance, stakeholder management, and commissioning readiness across multiple projects or phases.

The incumbent will provide technical, commercial, and leadership oversight for all MEP systems including HVAC, electrical power, plumbing, fire protection, and ELV systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives, design intent, safety, quality, cost, and schedule commitments.

This role involves leading multiple project managers, package managers, and site teams, managing key vendors and EPC partners, and acting as a senior interface with internal leadership, consultants, clients, and authorities.

Key Deliverables:

1. Provide strategic leadership and governance for all MEP construction and commissioning activities across AI Data Center projects, ensuring adherence to scope, timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
2. Oversee and guide execution of complex MEP systems including highdensity HVAC and cooling solutions, HT/LT electrical distribution, substations, DG sets, UPS systems, fire detection & suppression, plumbing, and ELV systems.
3. Drive multiproject planning, resource optimization, and execution strategies in coordination with Civil, Structural, Design, Procurement, and Operations teams.
4. Ensure constructability, energy efficiency, scalability, and longterm operational reliability of MEP systems in line with hyperscale data center standards.
5. Lead vendor, EPC, and consultant management including commercial evaluations, performance reviews, claims management, and contract compliance.
6. Establish and monitor cost control mechanisms, value engineering initiatives, and risk mitigation plans to achieve optimal project outcomes.
7. Champion EHS excellence, enforce statutory compliance, and foster a strong safety culture with a goal of zero incidents across all sites.
8. Provide executivelevel progress reporting, dashboards, and MIS to senior management, highlighting risks, dependencies, and mitigation actions.
9. Oversee testing, commissioning, and handover readiness, ensuring all systems meet performance, redundancy, and reliability criteria prior to operations.
10. Mentor and develop senior project managers and technical leaders, building a strong leadership pipeline within the MEP function.

Experience Required:

1. Mandatory: degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
2. Preferred: degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management; PMP / equivalent certification is an advantage.
3. 20+ years of experience in MEP delivery for Data Centers, large infrastructure, industrial, or missioncritical projects, with significant experience in senior leadership roles.
4. Demonstrated success in managing endtoend MEP packages from design coordination through execution, testing, and commissioning.
5. Strong exposure to HVAC systems, chilled water plants, electrical substations, UPS, DG sets, fire systems, and plumbing networks.
6. Indepth knowledge of international and Indian standards (ASHRAE, IEEE, IEC, IS, NFPA, NBC).
7. Proficiency with Primavera / MS Project, AutoCAD, MS Office, and MEP coordination tools.
8. Strong understanding of EHS systems, QA/QC frameworks, and governance processes at an enterprise level.

Key Competencies:

1. Deep expertise in MEP systems for largescale data centers, including advanced cooling technologies and missioncritical power infrastructure.
2. Strong understanding of hyperscale / AI data center design philosophies, redundancy models (N, N+1, 2N), and operational requirements.
3. Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple stakeholders at senior and executive levels.
4. Strong commercial acumen with experience in budgeting, contract management, claims, and cost optimization.
