Experience:
8 - 12 years of relevant experience in assembly, heavy lifting, and erection of static equipment (Thickener etc) and rotary equipment (Crusher, Screening, HPGR, Mill, conveyors etc) for Material Handling Plant or Comparable heavy industrial projects.
Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer will supervise and coordinate assenble and erection of static and rotary equipment for material handling facilities, including technological structures, Crucher, Screening, Appron Feeder, Conveyors, HPGR, Mills, Thickeners etc. The role is responsible for construction readiness, safe lifting and erection, dimensional compliance, welding quality, alignment, progress control, interface coordination, and timely handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise site assembly, delivery sequencing, laydown, lifting, erection, alignment, bolting, welding, grouting interfaces, and final acceptance of equipment.
- Review approved-for-construction drawings, general arrangements, connection details, bill of materials, erection schemes, method statements, inspection and test plans, lifting plans, and work permits before execution.
- Verify construction readiness, including foundations, pedestal levels, anchor-bolt location and projection, access, crane standing area, temporary supports, scaffolding, manpower, tools, lifting tackles, and material availability.
- Monitor cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, distortion control, dimensional checks, trial fit-up, painting or coating, as per approved drawings and specifications.
- Check line, level, plumbness, orientation, camber, member fit-up, bolt installation and tightening, weld completion, temporary stability, and final equipment alignment.
- Coordinate with civil, structural design, mechanical equipment, piping, electrical, instrumentation, refractory, safety, quality, commissioning, and operations teams to resolve interfaces and clashes.
- Review material test certificates, welding procedure and performance qualifications, NDT reports, calibration records, coating records, inspection requests, non-conformance reports, and punch lists.
- Monitor contractor productivity, planned versus actual tonnage, manpower and equipment utilisation, work-front availability, material reconciliation, and daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
- Identify delays, unsafe conditions, quality deviations, drawing or material constraints, and erection risks; implement corrective actions, recovery measures, and escalation.
- Enforce controls for heavy lifting, work at height, hot work, crane operations, rigging, temporary stability, dropped-object prevention, simultaneous operations, housekeeping, and permit-to-work compliance.
- Support joint measurements, bill verification, as-built documentation, punch closure, mechanical completion, and handover to commissioning and plant operations.
Required Experience and Exposure
- Hands-on experience in material handling plant or comparable industries.
- Ability to interpret mechanical GA drawings, equipment drawings, connection details, welding symbols, assembly drawings, erection marks, and material take-offs.
- Working knowledge of static and rotary equipment assembly and erection practices, applicable Indian Standards and project specifications, welding processes, bolted connections, dimensional tolerances, NDT, blasting, and protective coatings.
- Experience in preparing or reviewing erection methodology, crane selection inputs, lift studies, rigging arrangement, temporary bracing, stability requirements, and high-risk activity controls.
- Experience in supervising contractors and multidisciplinary site teams while maintaining quality, safety, schedule, productivity, and documentation requirements.
Preferred Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should be a Mechanical Engineering professional with 812 years of proven execution experience in assembly and erection of static and rotary equipment for material handling or similar large industrial facilities. The candidate should be capable of independently reviewing construction readiness, supervising contractors, resolving fabrication and erection issues, controlling safety and quality risks, tracking tonnage and progress, coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces, and delivering structurally complete work fronts for commissioning and handover.
