Surveyaan in Bengaluru, Karnataka invites a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of product development from concept to production.

You will craft 3D CAD models and drawings, select materials, coordinate with vendors, and work with electronics and software teams to ensure robust mechanical-electronic integration. The role emphasizes DFMA, prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement of existing products.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience in mechanical design or hardware engineering.
• Hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, CATIA).
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerances and assembly.
• Experience with CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication, 3D printing, welding.
• Experience developing physical prototypes and multiple iterations.
• Vendor/fabricator/manufacturer collaboration.
• DFM and DFA understanding.
• Product-based company or hardware startup experience preferred.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and complete products from concept to production.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings and manufacturing drawings.
• Take ownership of the complete product development cycle concept design prototype testing refinement production.
• Design products considering strength, weight, functionality, manufacturability, assembly and cost.
• Identify suitable materials, components and manufacturing processes for different product requirements.
• Search, identify and evaluate new vendors/manufacturers based on technical and commercial requirements.
• Proactively follow up with vendors and ensure that fabrication, machining, prototyping and other assigned work is completed on time.
• Inspect fabricated parts and prototypes for dimensional and functional compliance.
• Troubleshoot design, fabrication and assembly issues and implement necessary design changes.
• Build and test prototypes and incorporate feedback into subsequent design iterations.
• Coordinate closely with electronics, embedded and software teams for mechanical-electronic integration.
• Prepare BOMs, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Support product assembly, testing and field-level troubleshooting whenever required.
• Continuously improve existing products through design optimisation, weight reduction, reliability improvement and cost reduction.
• Take ownership of assigned projects and ensure timely completion with minimal supervision.
• Maintain strong communication with internal teams, vendors and manufacturing partners.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, product development or hardware engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, CATIA or similar 3D CAD tools.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, fits and mechanical assemblies.
• Practical knowledge of CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication, 3D printing, welding and other manufacturing processes.
• Experience in developing physical prototypes and taking products through multiple design iterations.
• Experience working directly with vendors, fabricators and manufacturing partners.
• Should be capable of finding new vendors independently, obtaining quotations and coordinating with them to get work executed.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Good knowledge of materials, fasteners, bearings, shafts, gears and other mechanical components.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Excellent communication and vendor coordination skills.
• Should be proactive, self-driven and comfortable taking ownership of tasks from start to finish.
• Should be willing to go to vendor/manufacturing locations when required.
• Should have a strong execution mindset and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Candidates with experience in drones/UAVs, robotics, automation, industrial equipment or other hardware products will be preferred.
• Candidates from a product-based company or hardware startup will be an added advantage.
