Crimson Energy Experts Pvt Ltd is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer Lead with Power Plant Design experience to join our team. The selected candidate will develop complex power plant designs, GA drawings, and 3D models.

You will handle equipment design, piping layouts, calculations, and ensure compliance with ASME BPVC and related standards, coordinating with vendors and fabrication teams to resolve issues and optimise reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of hands-on 3D CAD design and 2D drafting experience (SolidWorks/AutoCAD).
  • Strong background in power plant design and BOP systems; nuclear knowledge is a bonus.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3, API, ASTM standards and GD&T.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment design and modelling: create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for power plant mechanical equipment.
  • System layout and piping: develop GA drawings and piping layouts.
  • Perform mechanical calculations (stress, wall thickness, thermal expansion, material selection, pressure ratings).
  • Ensure compliance with ASME BPVC and related codes; support vendor drawings and data sheets.

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer Lead with experience in Power Plant Design to join our team. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting and developing complex power plant designs, factory layouts, and industrial general arrangement drawings.

Responsibilities
  • Equipment Design & Modelling: Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication/assembly drawings for power plant mechanical equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, pressure vessels, pumps, valves, and heavy structural supports).
  • System Layout & Piping: Develop equipment arrangements, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and piping layout designs adhering to plant space constraints and maintenance access requirements.
  • Engineering Calculations: Perform foundational mechanical calculations (stress analysis, wall thickness, thermal expansion, material selection, and pressure ratings) in compliance with ASME, API, and industry standards.
  • Standards & Compliance: Ensure all equipment designs satisfy relevant codes, including ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC Section VIII/I), ASME BPVC Section III (Nuclear Power Plant Components) for nuclear Class 1/2/3 systems, ASME B31.1 (Power Piping), and safety standards.
  • Vendor & Fabrication Coordination: Prepare equipment specifications, review vendor engineering drawings and data sheets, and support fabrication teams during the manufacturing phase to resolve design discrepancies.
  • Design Reviews & Optimisation: Participate in multidisciplinary design coordination meetings to optimise equipment reliability, inspectability, and maintainability
Qualification & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Technical Proficiency: 4+ years of hands‑on experience in 3D CAD design tools (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) and 2D drafting software (AutoCAD).
  • Power Plant Expertise: Strong background in power generation equipment (thermal, combined cycle or renewable power plants) and associated balance of plant (BOP) systems. Knowledge of nuclear power plant equipment is a bonus.
  • Codes & Standards: Thorough working knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3, API, and ASTM standards.
  • Drafting Standards: Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) according to ASME Y14.5.
  • Pressure Vessel Sizing Software: Experience with PV Elite or equivalent for ASME Section VIII vessel design and sizing.
  • Pipe Stress Analysis: Pipe stress analysis for conventional piping using AUTOPIPE, CAESAR II or equivalent.
Preferred attributes
  • MTech(ME) with specialisation in design.
  • Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools (e.g., ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent) for ASME Section III design‑by‑analysis work, including elastic‑plastic fatigue and thermal stratification evaluations.
  • Experience with heavy equipment material handling, ductwork, and structural steel connections in high-temperature or high-pressure environments.
  • Experience with nuclear‑qualified pipe stress software (e.g., PIPESTRESS, CAEPIPE) for Class 1/2/3 piping analysis per ASME III Subsections NB/NC/ND‑3600.
  • Familiarity with ASME BPVC (including Section III for nuclear components), AERB codes, and ASME NQA‑1 quality assurance requirements for nuclear safety‑related design work.
