Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Chennai is seeking a Mechanical Lead Engineer with expertise in pipe stress analysis to lead pre-bid and detailed design for Water, Effluent, and Sewage Treatment Projects.

You will mentor a team of mechanical engineers, plan deliverables, coordinate with other disciplines, and ensure compliance with ASME, AWWA standards while using CAESAR II, WaterHammer, WaterGEMS and Navisworks.

Qualifications

• B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 12–15 years of experience in mechanical engineering projects.
• Expertise in pipe stress analysis and related CAESAR II tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers for pre-bid and detailed design of Water, Effluent and Sewage Treatment Plant.
• Plan engineering deliverables, execution, resource planning and allocation.
• Collaborate with other discipline for proper integration of mechanical system.
• Lead continuous improvement in team productivity and skill set.
• Mechanical Equipment Design: design and select equipment and piping components; prepare datasheets and RFQs.
• Tendering & Procurement Support: prepare RFQs, evaluate offers, and support procurement.
• Plant Layout & Piping Design: develop layouts and piping drawings for STP, WTP, ETP.
• Design piping systems with GRP, ductile iron, HDPE, uPVC, stainless steel, carbon steel.
• Pipeline & Utility Systems: perform stress analysis of pipelines using CAESAR II.
• Hydraulic analysis for cross-country and in-plant pipelines.
• Design cross-country pipelines per ASME, AWWA M11 and Indian standards.
• Advanced Analyses: surge analysis with WaterHammer; design networks with WaterGEMS.
• 3D Modeling & Drawing Reviews: guide 3D modeling and CAD reviews.
• Client & Consultant Coordination: interact with clients and consultants; participate in HAZOP.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Lead
• Lead and mentor a team of Mechanical Engineers for Pre-bid and Detailed design of Water, Effluent and Sewage Treatment Plant
• Planning of engineering deliverables, execution, resource planning and allocation

• Mechanical Equipment Design:
• Design and select mechanical equipment, including pumps, blowers, lifting equipment, penstocks, tanks, pressure vessels, and piping components (pipes, fittings, valves, strainers, etc.).
• Prepare datasheets and specifications for mechanical equipment and piping components for Request for Quotation (RFQ).
• Tendering & Procurement Support:
• Prepare RFQs, evaluate vendor offers, conduct technical comparisons, and provide recommendations to the procurement team.
• Plant Layout & Piping Design:
• Develop plant layouts with utilities and design GA drawings and piping layouts for STP, WTP, and ETP process buildings.
• Design piping systems using materials such as GRP, ductile iron, HDPE, uPVC, stainless steel, and carbon steel for both above-ground and buried installations.
• Pipeline & Utility Systems:
• Perform stress analysis of critical pipelines using CAESAR II and prepare load schedules for pipe support systems.
• Conduct hydraulic analysis for cross-country and in-plant pipelines.
• Design cross-country pipelines and steel pipes in compliance with international standards like AWWA M11, ASME codes, and other relevant guidelines.
• Advanced Analyses:
• Conduct surge analysis using Bentley’s WaterHammer.
• Design transmission pipeline & distribution networks using WaterGEMS.
• 3D Modeling & Drawing Reviews:
• Guide teams in preparing L-section drawings in CIVIL 3D and generating 3D models of process buildings.
• Review and evaluate drawings and 3D models for accuracy and adherence to design specifications.
• Client & Consultant Coordination:
• Interact with clients and consultants to obtain design deliverables approval.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Participation in various workshops e.g. HAZOP etc. with client and consultant
• Specialized Systems:
• Mechanical design of pumping stations such as raw water intake systems, clear water pump houses, and treated water pumping stations for STP as per CPHEEO guidelines and Hydraulic Institute standards.
• Detailed engineering of piping and utility systems in water and wastewater treatment plants as per ASME B31.3 and relevant Indian standards.
