Job summary

Amor Management Consultants seeks an experienced mechanical design engineer to develop 3D models and master assemblies for hub motors and mid-drive units using CATIA, including housing, rotor/stator stacks, shafts and cooling fins.

You will produce detailed 2D drawings, apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5, perform stack‑up and fitment analyses, select materials, and ensure designs are manufacturable for casting, forging and machining.

Qualifications

  • Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.
  • Expertise in CATIA V5/V6 for Part Design, Surfacing, Assembly, and Generative Shape Design.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME/ISO drawing standards, tolerancing, and functional dimensioning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive 3D models and master assemblies for hub motors and mid-drive units using CATIA.
  • Generate detailed 2D production drawings, exploded-view manuals, and technical specifications for manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) to define tolerance zones and datums for high interchangeability.
  • Perform stack-up analysis (worst-case and RSS) and fitment analysis to prevent interference.
  • Select materials and optimize geometry to balance weight, thermal dissipation, and cost.
  • Design components for casting, forging, and machining adhering to DFM, DFA, and DFT principles.
  • Collaborate with electromagnetic engineers and tooling teams for high-volume production feasibility.
  • Link warranty failures to design parameters to identify root causes and improvements.
  • Support testing teams with environment, vibration, and durability data to identify failure modes.
  • Drive CAPA and engineering revisions to improve product reliability.
  • Participate in DFMEA to mitigate technical risks before production.
  • Analyze field and warranty data to propose weight or geometry optimizations.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

1. 3D Modeling & Design: Develop comprehensive 3D models and master assemblies for hub motors (in-wheel) and mid-drive units using CATIA, including housing, rotor/stator stacks, shafts, and cooling fins.

2. 2D Documentation: Generate detailed 2D production drawings, exploded-view manuals, and technical specifications for manufacturing and quality teams.

3. Precision Engineering: Apply advanced GD&T (ASME Y14.5) to define clear tolerance zones and datums, ensuring high-quality part interchangeability and functional performance.

4. Technical Analysis: Perform rigorous stack-up analysis (worst-case and RSS) and fitment analysis to prevent interference and ensure precise alignment within complex motor assemblies.

5. Material & Process Optimization: Select appropriate materials (e.g., high-grade steel, aluminum alloys) and optimize part geometry to balance weight, thermal dissipation, and cost.

6. Manufacturing Design (DfX): Design components specifically for casting, forging, and machining while adhering to DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), and DFT (Design for Tooling) principles.

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electromagnetic engineers to integrate rotor/stator layouts and with tooling teams to ensure design feasibility for high-volume production.

8. Design-Led Problem Solving: Link warranty failures back to specific design parameters, such as GD&T or material properties, to identify if dimensional variations or structural weaknesses caused the issue. [1]

9. Testing & Validation Support: Collaborate with testing teams to analyze data from environmental stress tests, vibration tests, and durability protocols to identify design-related failure modes.

10. Corrective & Preventive Action (CAPA): Drive design changes and engineering revisions based on RCA findings to prevent recurrence and improve overall product reliability.

11. Reliability Documentation: Participate in DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks before production.

12. Warranty Reduction: Analyze field and warranty data to propose weight or geometry optimizations that enhance the long-term lifecycle performance of motor components.

Preferred candidate profile

1. Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.

2. Software Proficiency: Expert-level mastery of CATIA V5/V6 (Part Design, Surfacing, Assembly, and Generative Shape Design).

3. Standards Knowledge: Thorough understanding of ASME/ISO drawing standards, drawing tolerances, and functional dimensioning.

4. Technical Expertise: Proven experience in stack-up analysis, weight optimization, and material selection for rotating components.

5. EV Experience: Familiarity with the structural requirements of hub and mid-motors, including IP-rated sealing and thermal management
