Job Overview
We are looking for a senior Motor Expert / Motor Technologist to provide technical leadership in the development and optimization of advanced electric motors for 2W and 3W EV applications.
The role will involve a combination of mechanical motor design, electromagnetic development, simulation, validation, failure analysis and technical problem-solving, along with mentoring cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the complete design and development of EV traction motors, from concept definition through development, validation and series production.
- Develop and optimize motor components and assemblies with a focus on performance, reliability, weight, cost and manufacturability.
- Carry out tolerance, stack-up and fitment studies to ensure proper component interfaces, clearances and assembly accuracy.
- Develop detailed 3D designs and assemblies using CATIA V5/V6, covering Part Design, Assembly, Surfacing and Generative Shape Design.
- Work on electromagnetic design and simulation using tools such as ANSYS Maxwell and Motor-CAD.
- Optimize electromagnetic and mechanical architecture to achieve improved torque density, efficiency and overall motor performance.
- Provide technical expertise on hub and mid-drive motor construction, including sealing, thermal considerations, magnets, copper winding and rotating components.
- Select appropriate materials and design concepts while considering weight, durability, performance and cost.
- Participate in DFMEA and design risk assessments and ensure identified risks are addressed during product development.
- Investigate field and warranty issues by connecting observed failures with design, GD&T, material and component-related parameters.
- Drive technical improvements, corrective actions and engineering changes (ECN) based on failure investigation and product performance.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal engineering teams for component development, prototype development and NPD activities.
- Apply DFM and DFA concepts to improve manufacturability, assembly and product cost.
- Develop appropriate validation strategies and test plans and establish correlation between simulation and physical test results.
- Analyze motor performance with emphasis on efficiency, torque characteristics, thermal behavior and NVH.
- Provide technical direction to electrical, mechanical, R&D, NPD and manufacturing engineering teams during new motor development and production support.
- Support technical decision-making and resolve complex design and development issues in collaboration with senior management and cross-functional teams.
