Job summary

AECOM in India is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with 8+ years of experience in mining and bulk materials handling to lead mechanical design packages for underground mining projects and fixed-plant systems.

The role involves conveyor design, materials handling, and dust-control system integration, with engagement across multiple interfaces and international stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution.
• At least 8 years' mechanical engineering experience, including mining, bulk materials handling or heavy industry.
• Demonstrated capability in conveyor systems, transfer systems, fixed plant and bulk-materials handling.
• Practical experience using at least one recognised conveyor-design package, including Sidewinder or Belt Analyst.
• Experience producing coordinated deliverables across concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design and construction support.
• Professional fluency in written and spoken English and confidence engaging with international stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design packages for underground mining, materials handling and fixed-plant projects.
• Undertake conveyor design and analysis using software such as Sidewinder or Belt Analyst, including sizing, power calculations and design optimisation.
• Apply bulk-solids handling principles to bins, chutes, feeders, transfer stations and ore-handling systems.
• Prepare calculations, equipment specifications, datasheets, scopes of work, technical evaluations and design reports.
• Lead the design and integration of crushing, screening, conveying, pumping, dewatering, dust-management and ventilation-related systems.
• Develop practical dust-suppression, extraction and containment solutions for abrasive, high-throughput environments.
• Coordinate civil, structural, electrical, process, controls, ventilation and geotechnical interfaces.
• Lead or contribute to technical reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs, constructability reviews and design verification.
• Support procurement, vendor engagement, tender evaluation, construction, commissioning and operational-readiness activities.
