Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior/Lead Mechanical Engineer for underground hard rock mining in India, primarily Bangalore/Gurugram, with hybrid work options. You will lead the mechanical design of mining and materials handling systems, drive conveyor analysis, and coordinate cross-discipline interfaces with a focus on safety and performance.

You will mentor junior engineers, develop standards, and engage with international stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution.
• At least 8 years' mechanical engineering experience, including mining or bulk materials handling.
• Experience with conveyor systems and fixed plant.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design packages for underground mining, materials handling and fixed-plant projects.
• Perform conveyor design and analysis using Sidewinder or Belt Analyst with sizing and power calculations.
• Prepare calculations, datasheets, scopes of work and design reports; lead integration of crushing, screening, conveying and related systems.
• Develop practical dust-suppression, extraction and containment solutions for abrasive materials handling.
• Coordinate interfaces across civil, structural, electrical, process, controls and ventilation.
• Mentor engineers and designers and contribute to technical standards.

Job Description

• Lead mechanical engineering design packages for underground mining, materials handling and fixed-plant projects.
• Undertake conveyor design and analysis using recognised software such as Sidewinder or Belt Analyst, including sizing, power calculations, dynamic assessment and design optimisation. Apply bulk-solids handling principles to bins, chutes, feeders, transfer stations and ore-handling systems to support reliable operation and maintainability.
• Prepare calculations, equipment specifications, datasheets, scopes of work, technical evaluations and design reports. Lead the design and integration of crushing, screening, conveying, pumping, dewatering, dust-management and ventilation-related systems.
• Develop practical dust-suppression, extraction and containment solutions for abrasive, high-throughput materials-handling environments. Coordinate civil, structural, electrical, process, controls, ventilation and geotechnical interfaces.
• Lead or contribute to technical reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs, constructability reviews and design verification. Support procurement, vendor engagement, tender evaluation, construction, commissioning and operational-readiness activities.
• Mentor engineers and designers and contribute to consistent technical standards and lessons learned.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution.
• At least 8 years' mechanical engineering experience, including significant exposure to mining, bulk materials handling or heavy industry.
• Demonstrated capability in conveyor systems, transfer systems, fixed plant and bulk-materials handling.
• Practical experience using at least one recognised conveyor-design package, including Sidewinder or Belt Analyst.
• Experience producing coordinated deliverables across concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design and construction support.
• Professional fluency in written and spoken English and confidence engaging with international stakeholders.
