Job summary

KCIRI, Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, seeks a Junior Research Fellow in Mechanical Engineering to drive defence technology development. You will lead mechanical design, structural analysis and dynamic simulations to ensure reliability and safety under operational loads and thermal stresses.

Responsibilities include CAD modelling, FEA/MBD validation, material selection, and producing technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/automobile engineering (GATE preferred).
  • Experience in CAD modelling, FEA and MBD is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (CATIA/SolidWorks) and FEA software.
  • Ability to prepare technical documentation and reports.

Job description

KCIRI, Kumaraguru College of Technology's Research & Innovation Centre, is seeking a dedicated Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in Mechanical Engineering to work on a Defence Technology development project. The JRF will be responsible for developing and implementing mechanical systems essential for the defence applications.

Job Role

To lead the mechanical design, structural analysis, and dynamic simulation of the system, ensuring it withstands operational loads, impact forces, and thermal stresses while meeting reliability and safety requirements.

Major Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and structural analysis of the system to ensure mechanical integrity and durability.
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate structural strength and stress distribution under operational conditions.
  • Perform Multi Body Dynamic (MBD) Simulations to analyse motion characteristics and behaviour of the system.
  • Prepare 3D CAD models and engineering drawings for all mechanical components.
  • Evaluate material selection for optimal strength-to-weight ratio and thermal performance.
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports.
Supporting Actions
  • Coordinate with team members for hardware integration and system assembly.
  • Support procurement, fabrication and quality inspection of mechanical components and materials.
  • Identify potential design improvements for structural optimization.
Educational Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering / Automobile Engineering or equivalent preferably with a valid GATE score.
Experience
  • Industry/ Research experience with relevant experience in CAD modelling, FEA / MBD is preferred.
  • Fresh graduates with good academic records and domain knowledge can apply.
Skills Required
  • Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA, SolidWorks, or equivalent) for 3D modelling and assembly.
  • Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS, or equivalent) for structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with Multi Body Dynamics simulation software (ADAMS, or equivalent).
  • Good communication and technical documentation skills.
