Job Description

The In-charge – OT manages the day-to-day operations of the operating theatre and ensures that surgical services are delivered safely and efficiently. The includes coordinating surgical schedules, supervising OT nursing staff, maintaining equipment and inventory readiness, ensuring compliance with infection control and surgical safety standards, and coordinating with surgeons, anaesthesia personnel, and hospital departments.

• Oversee daily operating theatre operations and ensure readiness for scheduled and emergency surgeries.
• Coordinate with surgeons, anaesthesia teams, and hospital departments to plan surgical procedures.
• Manage OT nursing staff allocation, shift schedules, and duty assignments.
• Ensure adequate staffing and appropriate coverage for all operating theatre shifts.
• Supervise OT nurses and support staff and monitor their performance.
• Verify the availability of surgical instruments, sterile packs, equipment, and consumables.
• Ensure that patient identification, consent verification, and surgical safety checklists are completed.
• Monitor compliance with aseptic technique, sterilization, and infection prevention protocols.
• Ensure appropriate preparation and turnover of operating theatres between procedures.
• Coordinate with CSSD for the timely supply, sterilization, and availability of surgical instruments.
• Monitor surgical instrument and consumable inventory and arrange replenishment when needed.
• Ensure medical equipment is checked, maintained, and reported for repair when necessary.
• Coordinate patient movement between wards, preoperative areas, operating theatres, and recovery units.
• Monitor completion and accuracy of perioperative records and OT registers.
• Support emergency surgical arrangements and ensure prompt availability of required resources.
• Investigate and report incidents, equipment failures, and breaches of patient safety protocols.
• Coordinate with infection control, biomedical engineering, housekeeping, and other relevant teams.
• Conduct staff training and reinforce compliance with OT procedures and safety standards.
• Participate in clinical audits, infection control reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Submit OT activity, staffing, equipment, and operational reports to nursing administration or hospital management.
