Job summary

CK Birla Hospital in New Delhi is seeking an In-charge – Emergency to coordinate nursing operations in the emergency department, oversee staffing, triage, and patient flow, and ensure compliance with clinical protocols and infection control.

You will supervise emergency nurses, coordinate with physicians and support services, maintain readiness of treatment areas and equipment, and ensure accurate documentation and patient safety.

Qualifications

• GNM/BSc Nursing with admin exposure preferred.
• 5–10 years of emergency/nursing leadership experience.
• Experience coordinating ED operations and staffing.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily emergency department nursing operations.
• Ensure staffing levels align with patient volume and needs.
• Prepare duty rosters and coordinate shift changes.
• Monitor triage and prioritize patients per protocols.
• Coordinate with physicians to support assessment, stabilization, and treatment.

The In-charge – Emergency is responsible for coordinating emergency department nursing operations and supporting the delivery of timely, safe, and effective emergency care. The includes managing nursing staff, monitoring triage and patient flow, ensuring emergency equipment readiness, coordinating with physicians and other departments, and maintaining compliance with clinical protocols, documentation standards, infection control measures, and patient safety requirements.

• Oversee daily nursing operations within the emergency department.


• Ensure appropriate staffing levels and allocate duties according to patient volume and clinical needs.


• Prepare duty rosters and coordinate shift changes and staff coverage.


• Monitor triage activities and ensure patients are prioritized according to established protocols.


• Coordinate with emergency physicians to support timely assessment, stabilization, and treatment.


• Ensure readiness of emergency treatment areas, resuscitation rooms, and observation beds.


• Monitor the availability and functionality of emergency equipment, including resuscitation trolleys.


• Ensure adequate stock of emergency medications, consumables, and essential nursing supplies.


• Supervise emergency nursing staff and provide guidance during complex or high‑pressure situations.


• Ensure timely monitoring and escalation of patients with deteriorating clinical conditions.


• Coordinate patient transfers to ICUs, wards, operating theatres, and other facilities.


• Ensure accurate documentation, clinical handovers, and maintenance of emergency department records.


• Monitor compliance with medication safety, patient identification, and infection control procedures.


• Coordinate with laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, ambulance services, and other departments.


• Support emergency response arrangements for mass casualty incidents and hospital emergencies.


• Address patient and family concerns and elevate unresolved issues appropriately.


• Review incidents, near misses, and operational challenges and report them to nursing administration.


• Conduct staff briefings, training, and emergency preparedness activities.


• Participate in clinical audits, quality assurance, and patient safety improvement initiatives.


• Prepare and submit reports on patient flow, staffing, equipment, incidents, and emergency department operations.
