The High School Counselor position involves implementing a comprehensive counseling program focused on the academic and social-emotional development of high school

Responsabilités

• Provide individual and group counseling to students.
• Balance preventative programming with responsive counseling services.
• Respond promptly to crises and sensitive concerns in accordance with school protocols.
• Adapt counseling approaches to meet diverse developmental and cultural needs.
• Support students and families through transitions.
• Oversee the scope and sequence of the SEL curriculum, and plan & lead advisory lessons as needed.
• Develop and implement programs that support self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
• Consult and partner with parents and guardians on student well-being to support student growth.
• Provide parenting information and guidance individually and in group settings.
• Establish & maintain relationships with external mental health professionals & community resources.
• Serve as the primary counselor in responding to high school safeguarding cases.
• Co-lead safeguarding training and manage cases in accordance with ASB policy.
• Uphold professional ethical standards, including confidentiality and duty of care.
• Collaborate with various teams to coordinate comprehensive student support services.

Initial two-year contract. Subsequent contracts are renewed annually.

POSITION SUMMARY

The High School Counselor implements a comprehensive counseling program aligned with the academic and social-emotional development of high school-aged students. They support student well-being, promote equitable access to learning opportunities, and collaborate with educators and families to foster student growth, resilience, and success. The counseling team is an integral part of the Student Support Services team and works closely with divisional instructional staff , including the divisional leadership team, to contribute to the School's mission to develop the whole child.
