Job summary

HCLTech in India is seeking an experienced Technical Consultant to bridge hands-on engineering with client-facing consulting. You will design, build, and troubleshoot Node.js/JavaScript solutions, work with relational and NoSQL databases, and support ITSM processes for enterprise clients.

This role requires moving between coding, advising stakeholders, and resolving production issues under ITSM, incident, problem, and change management, while collaborating with DevOps, QA, product, and support

Qualifications

• 4-8 years of IT experience with Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Relational DBs (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL (MongoDB).
• ITSM frameworks/processes and hands-on ITSM tools (ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, Jira Service Management).
• Experience building and consuming REST/GraphQL APIs.
• Client-facing/consulting experience is strongly preferred.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Technical Consultant who can bridge deep hands-on engineering skills with client-facing consulting. You will design, build, and troubleshoot Node.js/JavaScript solutions, work across relational and NoSQL databases, and support IT Service Management (ITSM) processes for enterprise clients. This role suits someone comfortable moving between writing code, advising stakeholders, and resolving production issues under an ITSM framework (incident, problem, and change management).

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js and JavaScript (ES6+).
• Work directly with client/business stakeholders to gather requirements, propose technical solutions, and present recommendations.
• Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and data models across relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and/or NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) systems.
• Support and improve ITSM processes incident, problem, change, and request management using tools such as ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, or Jira Service Management.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, performing root-cause analysis and driving permanent fixes.
• Write clean, tested, well-documented code and participate in code reviews.
• Integrate third-party APIs and internal services; ensure secure, scalable, and maintainable architecture.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (DevOps, QA, product, and support) across the delivery lifecycle.
• Prepare technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-base articles for support and client teams.
• Mentor junior consultants/engineers and contribute to technical best practices within the team.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 4-8 years of overall IT experience, with strong hands‑on expertise in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Solid experience with at least one relational database (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and exposure to NoSQL databases (MongoDB, etc.).
• Working knowledge of ITSM frameworks/processes (ITIL preferred) and hands‑on experience with an ITSM tool (ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, Jira Service Management, or similar).
• Experience building and consuming REST/GraphQL APIs.
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, debugging, and performance tuning.
• Excellent communication skills — able to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience in a client‑facing or consulting role is strongly preferred.
• Customer onboarding experience — guiding new clients through implementation and adoption.
• Experience with any ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tool or process.
• System administration experience with popular SaaS products such as ServiceNow, Jira, or Salesforce.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot application performance and reliability issues.
• Well versed with security best practices in the application operations space.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Good to Have

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Exposure to frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue).
• ITIL Foundation certification.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace).
