Job summary

Safran is seeking an Export Control Specialist on a 1-year contract in Bengaluru. You will review documents to determine license needs, classify products under export control regimes, and coordinate with engineering, legal, and logistics to gather information for approvals.

You will prepare license applications, track status, and ensure compliance with SCOMET and DGFT requirements, while supporting awareness sessions and maintaining detailed records for audits.

Qualifications

Job description

Employment Type: This is a contract position for a period of 1 year. Candidates should be comfortable with the contractual nature of the role.

Responsibilities
  • Review technical documents, product specifications, drawings, bills of material, data sheets, software descriptions, and customer requirements to identify whether export control review or license authorization is required.
  • Support classification of products, technology, software, and technical data under applicable export control lists, including SCOMET and other relevant international control regimes where applicable.
  • Coordinate with engineering, program, purchase, sales, logistics, legal, and compliance teams to collect technical and commercial information needed for export control assessment.
  • Determine whether an export license, authorization, registration, or internal approval is required before shipment, technology transfer, demonstration, repair return, training, or sharing of controlled technical information.
  • Prepare, compile, verify, and maintain documents required for export license applications, including end-use/end-user certificates, purchase orders, technical write-ups, product classifications, customer declarations, shipment details, and supporting compliance records.
  • Apply for export licenses through the relevant government portal or authority, including the DGFT Export Management System for SCOMET or restricted exports where applicable.
  • Track license application status, respond to authority queries, coordinate clarifications with internal stakeholders, and maintain complete records of approvals, amendments, revalidations, and post-reporting obligations.
  • Screen customers, end users, consignees, intermediaries, countries, and transactions against sanctions, denied-party, embargo, and restricted-party requirements as per company procedure.
  • Maintain export control files, audit trails, license registers, classification records, shipment approvals, and evidence of compliance for internal and external audits.
  • Support awareness sessions and internal guidance to business teams on export control requirements, documentation discipline, and controlled technology handling.
  • Monitor updates in applicable export control rules, DGFT notifications, SCOMET list changes, and internal procedures, and elevate potential compliance risks to the Export Control Manager.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, International Trade, Supply Chain, Law, Commerce, or a related discipline. Engineering or technical background is preferred for roles involving complex equipment or technology.
Required Skills
  • Minimum 3–4 years of experience in export control, trade compliance, export documentation, aerospace/defence compliance, logistics compliance, or regulated international trade.
  • Working knowledge of export control concepts, including controlled goods, dual use items, technical data, intangible technology transfer, end-use/end-user checks, license conditions, and record retention.
  • Practical understanding of SCOMET regulations, DGFT export authorization process, and documentation required for license applications in India.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents such as drawings, specifications, data sheets, part lists, product descriptions, test equipment documents, software/firmware descriptions, and customer technical requirements.
  • Experience in preparing or supporting export license applications, including coordination of end-use certificates, technical write-ups, customer declarations, and internal approvals.
  • Strong documentation discipline, analytical ability, and attention to detail, with the ability to identify missing information or inconsistencies in license application files.
  • Good communication skills to work with technical, commercial, legal, logistics, and government-facing stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, document management systems, and online government or compliance portals.
