Job summary

Durus Consulting in Pune is seeking a Development Engineer – Plastic Parts with hands‑on experience in automotive exterior plastic component design. You will design, model, and release 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for several exterior components, ensuring manufacturability and DFMs throughout the project lifecycle.

The role requires CATIA V5 proficiency, GD&T, injection molding knowledge, and collaboration with suppliers and cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

• We have hands-on experience in automotive exterior plastic component design.
• CAD modeling and detailing using CATIA V5 (preferred).
• Knowledge of plastic injection molding, tooling feasibility, GD&T, and DFM principles.
• Experience in creating and releasing 2D drawings.
• Understanding of APQP, PPAP, and Engineering Change Management.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop automotive exterior plastic components using CAD tools.
• Create and maintain accurate 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for vehicle programs.
• Develop and release components such as Front Bumper, Rear Bumper, Wheel Claddings, etc.
• Ensure CAD data is updated and reflects design maturity throughout the product development cycle.
• Lead and support CAD activities to meet timelines and deliverables.
• Ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and manufacturing feasibility.
• Collaborate with suppliers to resolve design, tooling, and manufacturing issues.
• Work with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and cross-functional teams to support launches.
• Participate in design reviews, tolerance analysis, and ECR/ECN processes.
• Ensure compliance with customer specs, quality standards, and company processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop automotive exterior plastic components using CAD tools.
• Create and maintain accurate 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for various vehicle programs.
• Develop and release components such as:
• Front Bumper
• Rear Bumper
• Wheel Claddings
• Wheel Arch Liners
• Bumper Foam
• Air Deflectors (Upper, Lower & Side)
• Other exterior trim plastic parts
• Ensure CAD data is updated and reflects the required design maturity throughout the product development cycle.
• Lead and support CAD activities in line with project timelines, milestones, and engineering deliverables.
• Ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and manufacturing feasibility of plastic components.
• Collaborate with suppliers to resolve design, tooling, and manufacturing issues.
• Work closely with Manufacturing, Plant Quality, Pilot Hall, Purchasing, and other cross‑functional teams to resolve open issues and support product launches.
• Participate in design reviews, tolerance analysis, and engineering change management.
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications, quality standards, and company engineering processes.

Required Skills

• Strong experience in automotive exterior plastic parts design.
• Expertise in CAD modeling and detailing using CATIA V5 (preferred).
• Good knowledge of plastic injection molding, tooling feasibility, GD&T, and DFM principles.
• Experience in creating and releasing 2D drawings.
• Understanding of automotive product development lifecycle (APQP, PPAP, Engineering Change Management).
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate with suppliers and cross‑functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering.
• Experience in OEMs or automotive Tier-1 suppliers.
