Job summary

CLAAS Agricultural Machinery in Mohali, India, seeks a Development Engineer/Expert for mechanical drives gearbox development to design components, subassemblies and modular systems in line with internal standards.

You will perform tolerance analyses, create 2D drawings, release parts in SAP, coordinate with suppliers and other departments, travel to Germany, and contribute to cost and weight optimization while working with a German colleague.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in mechanical engineering is required.
• Experience in development and design of mechanical gearbox components (gears, housings, shafts, clutches).
• Proficiency in reading and creating technical drawings; proficient in CATIA / 3D Experience, SAP and MS Office.
• Experience in weight- and cost-optimized gearboxes is desirable.
• Fluency in English; German language skills are advantageous.
• Willingness to travel regularly to Germany.
• Structured, solution-oriented, responsible, good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Development and design of gearbox components and subassemblies per specs and existing designs.
• Create 3D models with consideration of manufacturability, cost, weight, and schedule targets.
• Perform tolerance analyses from master sheet.
• Create 2D drawings with CLAAS standards and templates.
• Release parts via ECRM; coordinate with standards department and suppliers.
• Coordinate technical content with gearbox part suppliers and other CLAAS departments.
• Support gearbox assembly and industrialization under supervision of a German colleague.
• Create BOMs and start sourcing in SAP by creating CMCs.
• Assist test bench design in collaboration with validation and system engineer.

Development Engineer/Expert for Mechanical Drives Gearbox Development

Tasks:

• Development and design of components for mechanical gearboxes (including subassemblies) based on specifications and existing designs. Considering the reuse of parts to be aligned with internal standards and to create possible modular systems.
• Independent development and design of gearbox parts with a structured 3D-model setup, by considering an optimal manufacturing process and with respect to the cost, weight and time targets of the project
• Perform a tolerance analysis according to an available master sheet
• Documentation of the results by creating 2D-drawings with necessary shape and position tolerances by the use of CLAAS standards and available templates
• ECRM release of parts and assemblies
• Release of standard parts and coordination of the related steps with the standards department and suppliers
• Coordinating and discussion of technical content with gearbox part suppliers
• Assistance with gearbox assembly and industrialization under the supervision of a German colleague, e.g., at Indian suppliers
• Technical discussion concerning the designed parts & assemblies with other CLAAS departments (purchasing, IE, quality) and external part suppliers
• Creation of BOMs for validation and early sample stages and starting the sourcing process in SAP by creating CMCs
• Support the design of test bench runs by creating 3D concepts in close cooperation with validation and system engineer

Qualification:

• A successfully completed masters degree in mechanical engineering
• in-depth knowledge and experience in the development and design of mechanical gearbox components (e.g. gears, housings, shafts, clutches)
• Reading & creating technical drawings and being proficient in relevant CAD software (CATIA / 3D Experience), SAP & MS Office are second nature to you
• Experience in developing weight- and cost-optimized, efficient gearboxes is desirable
• Knowledge of the product development process, from requirements definition through to production launch
• You are fluent in English and, ideally, have a good command of written and spoken German.
• You are available for regular travel to Germany
• You work in a structured, solution-oriented manner and you like to take on responsibility within the team
• You have strong communication and teamwork skills and you are able to work independently and with dedication
