Job summary

Magna is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer specializing in transmission systems (hybrids and eDrives) to lead gearbox architecture design for automotive applications in Bengaluru, India. You will drive submodule development, systems integration, and validate performance across eDrive, AWD, and 4WD platforms.

Role requires 10+ years in gearbox design with a strong system-level understanding, proficiency in MATLAB/Simcenter Amesim, and toolchains like Windchill/Doors NG.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, Control Engineering, or Mechatronics.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in transmission/gearbox systems.
  • Strong knowledge of gearbox architecture for hybrids and EVs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead gearbox architecture design and development for eDrive, AWD, and 4WD systems.
  • Define and evaluate gearbox submodules such as park lock, decoupler, eLSD, shift units, clutches, oil pumps, sensors, and actuators.
  • Oversee lubrication, cooling, NVH, thermal management, EMC, durability, and reliability aspects.
  • Conduct gearbox efficiency calculations and functional simulations.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards: IATF 16949, PPAP / VDA2, APQP / VDA 4.3, ASPICE (ISO 15504), and ISO 26262 (Functional Safety).
  • Apply FMEA, risk identification, problem‑solving methods, and requirements engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross- functional teams on design validation planning (DVP), test management, and measurement technologies.
  • Manage requirements and documentation using advanced engineering tools.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer specializing in Transmission Systems (Hybrids and eDrives), with proven expertise in the design and development of gearbox architectures for automotive applications. The ideal candidate should bring strong system-level understanding, technical depth, and hands‑on experience with gearbox submodules and related technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead gearbox architecture design and development for eDrive, AWD, and 4WD systems.
  • Define and evaluate gearbox submodules such as park lock, decoupler, eLSD, shift units, clutches, oil pumps, sensors, and actuators.
  • Oversee lubrication, cooling, NVH, thermal management, EMC, durability, and reliability aspects.

  • Ability to integrate mechanical, electrical, and control aspects in gearbox systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, Control Engineering, or Mechatronics.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in transmission/gearbox systems.
