Job summary

Fives Maintenance in India seeks a Mid Level Design Engineer to design and analyze steel structures, prepare drawings and specs, and coordinate with project teams.

You will work on projects with manufacturing and quality control teams, ensuring compliance with codes and delivering technically sound designs across pan-India sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Certification in 3D design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks).
• Overall 8–10 years of engineering/manufacturing experience, with 5–8 years in mechanical/piping design.

Responsibilities

• Investigate design failures and identify root causes to implement improvements.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and implement new designs.
• Develop products and systems based on customer requirements and standards.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and quality control.
• Review designs and provide feedback on received designs.
• Maintain specifications, drawings and technical manuals.
• Collaborate with manufacturing partners and quality control.
• Discuss financial viability, risk assessments and design economy with other departments.

Position: Mid Level – Design Engineer

Designation: Manager / Sr. Engineer / Engineer - Design

Reports to: Design Head

Functions Supervised: Design Head / Manager / Sr. Manager Design

Team Size: Not Applicable

Role Objective: Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designs and analyzes steel structures, preparation of technical drawings and specifications, perform calculations, coordinates with project teams (clients, contractors, suppliers), manage technical documentation, reviews manufacturing drawings, ensures compliance with codes and specifications and supports projects team.

Responsibilities

• Investigate design failures and identify root causes to implement effective design improvements.
• Staying up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies and implementing new designs.
• Developing and designing products and systems based on customer requirements and industry standards.
• Collaborating with other areas of the organisation, such as manufacturing and quality control.
• Reviewing and providing feedback on the designs received from various sources.
• Maintaining specifications, drawings and technical manuals.
• Collaborating with manufacturing partners and quality control team.
• Collaborating with other departments to discuss the financial viability of designs, risk assessments and ensure designs that are economically viable.

Skills & Know-How

• Knowledge of Industry Codes and Standards (ASME, ANSI, BIS etc.)
• Basic Understanding of mechanical Drawings and CAD drawings
• Having basic knowledge in Engineering Mechanics & Strength of Materials
• Proven experience in mechanical designs for steel industrial projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• In-depth Knowledge of equipment, fabrication process & Installation Techniques
• Understanding of Fluid Mechanics & Thermodynamics
• Drafting Experience on Continuous Furnace would be an added advantage.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Certificate / Diploma courses on 3D design / Auto-CAD/ other Piping design software
• Should be able to work in Inventor / Naviswork
• Overall 8 -10 years of experience in engineering / manufacturing Industry.
• Minimum 5 - 8 years experience in mechanical design / piping design engineering.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• Work from Office.
• If required Site visit are required in pan India.
