H G Infra Engineering (HGIEL) is seeking a Civil Design Coordination Engineer to manage end-to-end drawings and technical documents for structure projects. You will liaise with design consultants, clients and site teams to ensure timely submission, review and approval of drawings per project schedules.

The role requires handling RFIs, document control, and interface management across structural, civil and MEP domains, leveraging AutoCAD and MS Project/Primavera tools.

Qualifications

  • BE/B.Tech in Civil Engineering is essential.
  • M.Tech in Structural Engineering is an added advantage.
  • Experience in design coordination for structures/infrastructure is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preparation, submission and approval of structural drawings and documents.
  • Interface with design consultants, client/PMC, and project teams for timely deliverables.
  • Review drawings for completeness, constructability and alignment with design criteria.
  • Manage RFIs/technical queries and ensure timely closure.
  • Maintain drawing registers, submission registers and revision trackers.
  • Coordinate with site teams to align drawings with construction schedules.
  • Support design MIS: submission/approval counts and progress tracking.
  • Assist in change orders, claims and EOT with relevant design docs.

Job description

1. Job Purpose

To coordinate and facilitate end-to-end design activities for structure projects by ensuring timely preparation, submission, review, approval and issuance of drawings and technical documents. The role will act as a key interface between the Design Consultants, Client/PMC, Project/Site Execution, Planning, QA/QC, Survey and other engineering teams to ensure that design deliverables are aligned with project requirements and construction schedules.

2. Key Responsibilities
A. Design & Drawing Coordination
  • Coordinate preparation, submission and approval of structural drawings and design documents.
  • Coordinate drawings related to piling, pile caps, piers, pier caps, abutments, retaining structures, girders, precast elements, decks and other structures.
  • Ensure drawings are aligned with approved design criteria, specifications, BOQ and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external design consultants for timely delivery of drawings.
  • Review the status of design deliverables against the project construction programme.
B. Client / Consultant Coordination
  • Act as the primary coordination point between Design Consultant, Client/PMC and Project Team for design-related matters.
  • Coordinate submission of drawings and technical documents through the prescribed process.
  • Track consultant/client comments and ensure timely incorporation and resubmission.
  • Follow up for approvals and identify critical drawings that may impact construction activities.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and prepare/track action points.
C. Drawing Review & Interface Management
  • Carry out preliminary review of drawings for completeness, consistency and constructability.
  • Identify discrepancies between structural, civil, architectural, utility, geotechnical and other drawings.
  • Coordinate resolution of design interfaces and technical discrepancies with relevant departments.
  • Ensure that site requirements and constructability issues are communicated to the design team.
  • Coordinate revisions arising from site conditions, design changes and client/consultant observations.
D. RFI / Technical Query Management
  • Coordinate preparation and submission of RFI/TQ/technical queries arising from site.
  • Maintain a tracker for all RFIs/TQs and monitor their closure.
  • Coordinate with Design Consultants and Site Execution teams to resolve technical issues within the required timeline.
  • Escalate critical unresolved issues that may affect project progress.
E. Drawing & Document Control
  • Maintain updated Drawing Register, Design Submission Register, Approval Register and Comment/Revision Tracker.
  • Ensure proper revision control and withdrawal of superseded drawings.
  • Ensure only the latest approved/IFC/AFC drawings are available with the execution team.
  • Coordinate issuance and circulation of approved drawings to concerned departments.
  • Maintain proper records of design correspondence, transmittals and approvals.
F. Site & Construction Coordination
  • Coordinate closely with Construction, Planning, QA/QC, Survey and other site teams.
  • Understand construction sequences and ensure drawings are available in advance of planned activities.
  • Support the site team in resolving drawing-related issues during execution.
  • Identify potential design-related delays and communicate them to the Project Management team.
  • Participate in site/design coordination meetings as required.
G. Design Schedule & MIS
  • Prepare and maintain a Design Deliverables Schedule in line with the project construction programme.
  • Monitor planned vs. actual drawing submission and approval dates.
  • Prepare periodic MIS on:
    • Drawings submitted
    • Drawings approved
    • Drawings under review
    • Drawings pending with consultant/client
    • Revisions
    • RFIs/TQs pending and closed
    • Critical design deliverables affecting construction
  • Highlight slippages and initiate timely follow-up/escalation.
H. Change / Variation Support
  • Coordinate design changes arising due to site conditions, client instructions, utility conflicts or scope changes.
  • Maintain records of design changes and related correspondence.
  • Support the Project/Contracts team with relevant design documentation for change orders, claims and EOT, wherever required.

4. Required Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of structural and infrastructure drawings.
  • Knowledge of bridge/elevated corridor/highway structure construction.
  • Understanding of piling, pile caps, piers, pier caps, abutments, girders, deck slabs and related structural elements.
  • Good understanding of drawing submission and approval processes.
  • Knowledge of RFI/TQ, NCR, technical correspondence and design change management.
  • Strong revision and document-control practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and design documents.
  • Knowledge of construction sequence and site requirements.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of MS Project / Primavera / BIM/Navisworks will be an advantage.

6. Qualification & Experience

Qualification:
B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering; M.Tech in Structural Engineering will be an added advantage.
