Job summary

Freight Wings is seeking a Lead of Structural Design to head our internal design team in Mumbai. You will oversee design strategy, ensure robust practices, and tackle complex challenges with advanced tools like MIDAS, STAAD.Pro, ANSYS, and AutoCAD.

You will coordinate with erection teams, project managers, and clients to deliver safe, cost-effective, and innovative structures. A strong track record in infrastructure design and leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Education: M. Tech or BE/BTech in Structural/Civil Engineering.
• Experience: 10+ years in structural design; 3–5 years in leadership/management.
• Software: Expert in MIDAS Civil, ANSYS, STAAD.Pro; working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the structural design team, assign tasks and mentor engineers.
• Provide expert-level design and analysis using MIDAS, STAAD.Pro, ANSYS & AutoCAD.
• Review drawings, models, calculations, BOQs and design docs; ensure IS/IRC/EU codes.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Lead of Structural Design to lead our internal design team. The ideal candidate will oversee structural design strategy, ensure robust engineering practices, and directly contribute to complex design challenges. Proficiency in MIDAS, STAAD.Pro, ANSYS & Auto Cad is essential. This is a leadership role requiring coordination with erection teams, project managers, and clients to ensure safe, cost-effective, and innovative structural solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the structural design team, including allocation of design tasks, technical reviews, and mentoring junior engineers.
• Provide expert-level analysis and design of structures using MIDAS, STAAD.Pro, ANSYS & Auto Cad.
• Review and approve structural drawings, models, calculations, BOQs and design documentation.
• Ensure design compliance with relevant Indian and international standards (IS, IRC, Eurocode, AASHTO).
• Work closely with the projects, sales and execution teams to ensure constructible and site-adapted designs and solutions.
• Validate structural adequacy for heavy lifting, transportation, and erection-related operations
• Evaluate and optimize structural solutions for cost, efficiency, and sustainability.
• Represent the design department in client meetings, design reviews, and audits.
• Liaise with external consultants and vendors where necessary.
• Establish and implement best practices, templates, and design protocols for the department.
• Ensure timely delivery of design and solutions within budget and schedule constraints.
• Support project execution with detailed drawings, erection methodologies, and real-time problem-solving.
• Spearhead R&D efforts in modular design, lightweight structures, alternate materials, self-erecting systems, transportation systems.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies, tools, and software in structural engineering.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: M. Tech or B.E./B. Tech in Structural/Civil Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in structural design, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Software Proficiency: Expert-level skills in MIDAS Civil, ANSYS and STAAD.Pro; working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM platforms preferred.
• Proven track record in designing for infrastructure projects such as bridges, marine structures, and heavy steel erections, offshore/ onshore platforms.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
