Job summary

The Standard India is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to design, implement, and optimize relational and non-relational data platforms. You will work with Azure cloud, MongoDB Atlas, CosmosDB, and MS SQL to enable secure, scalable data services.

Ideal candidates have 8 years of experience with NoSQL and SQL, plus Python, Ansible, and Terraform. Hybrid work with on-site Bengaluru is expected and RBAC, security, and backup practices are essential.

Job Summary

The Database Platforms team at The Standard India is responsible to plan, build, and run the database service to enable secure and reliable centralized repositories for structured data. Our Vision is to empower the Enterprise through secure, reliable and modern database platforms – accelerating cloud migration to enable critical business applications, automation and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Relational and Non-Relational databases to support business applications and reporting platforms.
• Create and manage database objects (tables, indexes, views, procedures, packages) ensuring data integrity and security.
• Monitor and optimize database performance using tools and SQL tuning utilities.
• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Automate database provisioning and management using scripting and Infrastructure as Code tools (Python, Ansible, Terraform).
• Collaborate with application developers, architects, and infrastructure teams to integrate database solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database issues and incidents.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and regulatory requirements by managing user access, roles, and audit logs.
• Document database platforms processes, procedures, and best practices.
• Automation and Process Improvements.
• Stay current with emerging database technologies and trends.
• Ability to work on‑site in Bengaluru, India is a requirement of the role.

Mode of Working

This role follows a hybrid work model, with a primary base in Bengaluru. While on‑site presence is essential for key engagements, flexibility is offered for remote work based on business needs and team alignment.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

Education: B.Tech / B.E. in Computer Science, IT or related technical education is required.

Experience

• 8yrs of experience with the following is required.
• T‑shaped skills with Non‑Relational Database in Azure such as MongoDB, CosmosDB as the core foundational engineering skillsets along with experience on other relational databases like MS SQL.
• Experience with cloud‑native deployments and integrations (MongoDB Atlas).
• Proficiency in MongoDB Query Language (MQL) for CRUD operations, aggregation, and advanced querying.
• Integration with application development teams and CI/CD pipelines.
• Creating effective Indexes in NoSQL Databases for effective query performance.
• Security and RBAC.
• NoSQL Concepts like Documents, Collections, BSON, Schema Flexibility.
• Proficiency in installing, configuring, and upgrading MongoDB clusters, including replica sets and sharded clusters.
• Scripting/Programming Languages like Python, Ansible, Terraform for Infrastructure as a Code and Automation.
• Experience working with SQL Server Management Studio.
• Deep Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying.
• Knowledge of MS SQL Databases (onPrem and Cloud).
• Has experience in deploying and administering Databases on Azure.
• Knowledge on Azure’s SQL Offering.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Database Observability tools like Redgate, Datadog.
• Knowledge on Azure’s SQL and Oracle Offering.
• MongoDB Certifications.
• Certifications in Oracle Database Administration (OCP, OCI) or cloud platforms.
• AZ900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (or equivalent).
