Specialist Component Engineer
JOB TITLE
We are seeking a Specialist Component Engineer with 710 years of experience in electronic component engineering, lifecycle management, and supply chain risk mitigation. The role involves driving component selection, obsolescence management, alternate part qualification, compliance, and standardization activities across multiple Hubbell Business Units. The ideal candidate will collaborate with global Engineering, Sourcing, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to ensure product sustainability, component availability, and cost optimization throughout the product lifecycle.
JOB OVERVIEW
Lead component selection, qualification, and approval activities for NPD and sustaining engineering projects.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Monitor component lifecycles, Product Change Notifications (PCNs), End-of-Life (EOL) notices, and technology roadmaps.
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify alternate and second-source components to mitigate supply chain risks.
- Partner with global Business Units, Engineering, Sourcing, and Suppliers to resolve component-related challenges.
- Perform BOM analysis, cost optimization, and component standardization across product families.
- Drive obsolescence mitigation strategies and support redesigning activities for legacy products.
- Maintain approved component databases, preferred parts lists, AVL, and engineering libraries.
- Ensure compliance with RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals, and other regulatory requirements.
- Support supplier assessments, technical evaluations, and component qualification activities.
- Prepare engineering reports, risk assessments, lifecycle analyses, and component recommendations.
- Contribute to Design-to-Value (DtV), cost reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support product sustainability and manufacturing continuity through proactive component management.
Education
- B.E. / B.Tech. / M.E. / M.Tech. in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, or M.Sc. in Electronics.

Experience
- 710 years of experience in Component Engineering, Electronics Hardware Design, Product Sustaining, or Electronic Manufacturing environments.
- Experience supporting global products across multiple Business Units and cross-functional teams.
- Experience reviewing component symbols, PCB footprints, 3D models, and CAD library standards.
- Experience managing PCNs, PDNs, EOL notifications, and alternate component qualifications.
- Knowledge of AVL management, component standardization, and BOM optimization.
- Familiarity with Silicon Expert, Z2Data, IHS, or equivalent lifecycle management tools.
- Working knowledge of RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals, UL, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Understanding PCB design, embedded hardware systems, and electronics manufacturing processes.
- Exposure to PLM/ERP systems such as Windchill, Agile, Arena, SAP, or equivalent.
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of semiconductors, passive devices, electromechanical components, sensors, power devices, and communication modules.
- Expertise in component lifecycle management, obsolescence analysis, and risk mitigation.
- Working knowledge of ECAD tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, Mentor Graphics PADS, and component library creation/maintenance processes.
