Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Endocrinology department in Carmel, IN. The role involves direct patient support, room preparation, and front-office management to ensure a smooth clinical workflow.

Responsibilities include documenting medical history, transcribing orders, and maintaining a clean, organized clinical environment. Certification requirements include BLS and Medical Assistant credentials; CMA with endocrinology experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• Medical Assistant certification or registration within 90 days of hire.
• CMA with 1+ year endocrinology/diabetes office experience is a plus.
• High School diploma or equivalent, or 1 year related experience.
• Licensure can substitute education or experience where applicable.

• Prepare treatment rooms and maintain a clean environment; manage basic materials stocking for efficiency.
• Interview patients for medical history and accurately chart information; transcribe orders for labs, radiology, and meds.
• Handle front-office duties: answer calls and maintain organized patient records to support workflow.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Direct Patient Support: Assist providers with patient examinations, measure vital signs, and execute ordered treatments and procedures under supervision.
• Clinical & Administrative Flow: Prepare treatment rooms, maintain a clean environment, and manage basic materials ordering and stocking to ensure operational efficiency.
• Accurate Documentation: Interview patients for medical history, accurately chart all information, and precisely transcribe provider orders for lab tests, radiology, and medications.
• Front-Office Management: Handle critical clerical duties, including answering calls and maintaining organized patient records to support a seamless practice flow.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Medical Assistant obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. Certified or Registered both accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
• CMA with at least one year's experience if office setting experience with endocrinology, diabetes management in medical or family practice office a plus.
