Buyer – Mechanical (India)

Role Overview

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating and purchasing equipment and services in line with budget, schedule, quality and technical project requirements while ensuring compliance with Group Supply Chain strategy processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the tender process fairly and identify bidders that meet SBM’s technical requirements, budget and schedule constraints.
• Elaborate bid packages with relevant disciplines (Engineering, Legal, etc.) and understand contractual requirements.
• Ensure vendor qualification processes are performed per SBM rules.
• Issue RFQ, expedite and collect offers from bidders; analyze offers and identify areas for clarification.
• Develop recommendations for bidder selection based on cost, technical requirements and delivery time, in accordance with SBM Ethics and Compliance rules.
• Document the tendering process (Commercial Bid Evaluation, Recommendation to Purchase, etc.).
• Manage the tactical procurement process from RFQ preparation to Recommendation to Purchase, ensuring compliance with SBM procedures.
• Set up package strategy with the Package Manager to lead negotiations and use leverage to achieve targets and competitive pricing.
• Perform financial/commercial analysis, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend options to support procurement decisions.
• Conduct internal contract checkpoints throughout PO execution to minimize contractual and financial risks.
• Manage claims with vendors and develop appropriate settlement plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration and a minimum of 5 years as a Buyer in Oil & Gas or EPC.
• Broad and deep procurement experience in Offshore, Marine or Petrochemical Industry.
• International travel may be required.
• Experience and expertise in mechanical equipment for key packages.
• Self‑starter with strong interpersonal, organizational and time‑management skills.
• Proactive, flexible, adaptable to operational changes.
• Willingness to travel.
• Fluent in English (written and verbal).
