Job description

Responsibilities

• Manage supplier development and the buying process for assigned goods, applying sourcing policy and serving as the interface between suppliers and internal stakeholders on specifications and budgets.
• Lead the development and negotiation of purchasing contracts, including partnering, strategic alliances, and technology transfers, providing contracting expertise across the organization.
• Identify, qualify, and onboard new suppliers in India and low‑cost countries, driving localization initiatives and product qualification processes.
• Design and implement procurement strategies for new supplier development drives, including supplier selection, contract negotiation, and risk mitigation for supply chain disruptions and quality issues.
• Collaborate with factory teams, engineering, shop, MMI, process specialists, quality, purchase, and logistics to ensure timely supply through RFQ preparation, cost estimation, quotation tabulation, and budgetary cost consumption data preparation.
• Negotiate terms and pricing with selected vendors, leading key supplier negotiations to secure favorable pricing and conditions aligned with business needs.
• Place orders with suitable vendors based on cost, qualification, technical competency, budget, and delivery parameters.
• Monitor supplier performance, drive improvement plans, and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers while building new ones to diversify the supply base.
• Align supplier KPIs with function KPIs (such as spend, payment terms, deflation, on‑time delivery, and PR‑to‑PO cycle) and strategize goals accordingly.
• Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to define sourcing requirements and ensure alignment with operational needs.
• Provide 100% material visibility and tracking across the organization, leading or participating in supplier performance improvement and rating programs.
• Collaborate with commodity leaders for global benchmarking and lead initiatives to develop critical components in India, including small mechanical parts.
• Network with stakeholders to solve problems effectively, creating “idea” pools and driving action plans to achieve year‑on‑year deflation and lead‑time reduction targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (preferably Master’s in Engineering) with solid business acumen and a holistic understanding of cross‑functional operations.
• 10–15 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, project management, or related fields, with a strong grasp of various manufacturing processes.
• Basic commercial awareness and proficiency in order management and scheduling.
• Experience in turbine and generator manufacturing industries and familiarity with turbine‑generator parts.
• Proactive problem‑solving attitude, excellent networking and communication skills, and strong organizational abilities (prioritization and resource deployment).
• Capability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and to present information clearly and respond to questions effectively.
• Global sourcing experience is preferable.
