Job Description

The Attending Consultant – Obstetrics and Gynaecology provides comprehensive specialist care for obstetric and gynaecological patients. The is responsible for clinical evaluation, treatment planning, operative and emergency management, patient counselling, and coordination of multidisciplinary womens healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct specialist OPD and inpatient consultations.


• Diagnose and manage routine and complex obstetric and gynaecological conditions.


• Provide antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and gynaecological care.


• Manage high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies.


• Perform or supervise obstetric and gynaecological procedures and surgeries within approved clinical privileges.


• Review and interpret laboratory, ultrasound, imaging, and other diagnostic reports.


• Develop individualized treatment and delivery plans.


• Coordinate with neonatologists, anaesthetists, radiologists, surgeons, nurses, and other specialists.


• Lead or participate in multidisciplinary clinical discussions.


• Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, risks, procedures, and follow-up.


• Monitor post-operative and post-delivery patients and manage complications appropriately.


• Maintain accurate clinical, surgical, and delivery documentation.


• Support clinical governance, audits, morbidity/mortality reviews, and quality-improvement initiatives.


• Supervise and mentor residents and junior doctors.


• Participate in teaching, CME programs, research, and departmental development.


• Ensure compliance with patient-safety, infection-control, ethical, and hospital protocols.
