Job summary

Job Description

Consultant - Ophthalmology is responsible for diagnosing and managing patients with eye and vision-related disorders through appropriate medical, procedural, and surgical care. The includes clinical assessment, ophthalmic investigations, treatment planning, surgical support, emergency management, patient counselling, follow-up, and coordination with ophthalmic nursing, optometry, diagnostic, and other healthcare teams.

• Evaluate patients with ophthalmic and vision-related complaints.
• Obtain relevant medical and ophthalmic history.
• Perform comprehensive eye examinations and clinical assessments.
• Review ophthalmic diagnostic investigations.
• Diagnose and manage common and complex ophthalmic conditions.
• Develop appropriate medical and surgical treatment plans.
• Perform ophthalmic procedures and surgeries within professional scope.
• Manage cataract, glaucoma, corneal, retinal, and other eye conditions as applicable.
• Assess and treat ophthalmic emergencies.
• Monitor patient progress and treatment response.
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative care.
• Coordinate with ophthalmic technicians, optometrists, nurses, and other departments.
• Counsel patients regarding treatment, procedures, risks, and follow-up.
• Maintain accurate clinical and operative records.

• Refer patients for specialized or multidisciplinary care when necessary.
