Job summary

Grafana Labs in Ireland is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer for the Alerting squad. This remote role focuses on building scalable, reliable alerting systems that power Grafana Cloud and open-source projects.

You will design, implement, and operate core backend components and work closely with customers and Cloud teams. You’ll join a remote-first, globally distributed team that values autonomy, open collaboration, and clean, maintainable code.

Qualifications

• Experience with building backend services or distributed systems.
• Strong problem solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable code and testable components.

Responsibilities

• Influence roadmap and personal career objectives.
• Deliver new features with your team and iterate based on results.
• Drive projects from ideation to production, in collaboration with Cloud teams.
• Contribute to open‑source culture and projects beyond your team scope.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems for reliability and performance.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and own the services you run.
• Mentor teammates and participate in design discussions.
• Learn and understand Grafana’s cloud product and distributed codebase.
