Job summary

Howden Ireland seeks a Senior Surety Executive to own and grow a portfolio of surety clients, guiding bond placement and renewals, and delivering expert guidance to brokers and clients. You will shape market strategy, drive profitability, and lead complex submissions with senior stakeholders.

You will work closely with internal teams to ensure top-tier service, governance and compliant processes while developing new client opportunities and mentoring the wider team.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in surety (contract and/or commercial) within a broker, insurer or specialist provider.
• Strong commercial judgement with ability to negotiate with underwriters, brokers and clients.
• Demonstrated capability in financial analysis and underwriting, translating complex data into recommendations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management, able to engage with senior decision makers.
• Highly organised with attention to detail, able to prioritise deadlines and maintain documentation.
• Proactive, results-driven with evidence of growth, retention and service improvements.
• CIP insurance qualification with ongoing professional development in surety and construction risk.
• Track record in developing plans, pipelines and winning new surety business through brokers and direct client engagement.
• Experience with complex contract surety, infrastructure or construction sectors would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day management of a senior surety client portfolio and act as primary relationship lead.
• Lead placement, renewals and negotiation of bonds, ensuring optimal terms and pricing.
• Provide senior technical oversight on submissions and risk narratives to markets.
• Develop and execute a growth plan, build pipeline and convert opportunities.
• Originate new client relationships through prospecting and broker engagement; attend industry events.
• Maintain relationships with underwriters and monitor market appetite for priority clients.
• Ensure governance, regulatory compliance and high-quality file documentation.
• Collaborate with finance, claims and broking teams for accurate invoicing and timely bond issuance.
• Coach and mentor colleagues; contribute to process improvements and new surety solutions.
