Job summary

Ward Personnel is seeking a Senior Engineer in Galway to lead setting-out, levels, and dimensional control on a major residential development. You will work with Site/Project Manager, design team and subcontractors to deliver works safely and to programme.

The ideal candidate has a Civil/Structural Engineering degree, 5+ years with a main contractor, and proven setting-out experience on residential schemes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' post-graduate experience with a main contractor.
• Proven setting-out experience on residential/apartment schemes.
• Strong knowledge of Irish building regulations and current residential compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of setting out, levels, and dimensional control across the site.
• Review and interpret design drawings, specifications, and technical details, raising RFIs where required.
• Coordinate directly with the design team, subcontractors, and site management on technical queries.
• Manage and mentor junior/graduate engineers on site.
• Ensure works are constructed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and current building regulations.
• Maintain accurate site records, as-built drawings, and quality control documentation.
• Support the Site Manager with programme sequencing and technical planning.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and site-specific safety statements.
• Liaise with building control and assigned certifiers on residential compliance matters.

Senior Engineer

Location: Galway

About the Company

Our client is a main contractor delivering a significant residential development in Galway. With a strong regional presence and an active pipeline of residential projects, they are looking to strengthen their site engineering team ahead of the next phase of works.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Engineer will take a lead technical role on site, working closely with the Site/Project Manager, design team, and subcontractors to ensure the works are delivered accurately, safely, and to programme.

• Take ownership of setting out, levels, and dimensional control across the site


• Review and interpret design drawings, specifications, and technical details, raising RFIs where required


• Coordinate directly with the design team, subcontractors, and site management on technical queries


• Manage and mentor junior/graduate engineers on site


• Ensure works are constructed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and current building regulations


• Maintain accurate site records, as-built drawings, and quality control documentation

Requirements

The senior engineer we're looking for will have solid main contractor experience on residential projects and be comfortable operating with a high degree of technical autonomy.

• Degree qualified in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related discipline


• Minimum 5 years' post-graduate experience with a main contractor


• Proven experience on residential/apartment schemes


• Strong setting-out and dimensional control experience


• Working knowledge of Irish building regulations and current residential compliance requirements


• Proficient in AutoCAD and/or relevant setting-out software


• Strong communication and mentoring skills


• Full clean driving licence
