Job summary

Morgan McKinley is recruiting a Senior Projects Engineer for our Drogheda-based manufacturing client. The role leads capital projects from concept to handover, delivering new manufacturing processes, equipment, packaging systems, automation and supporting infrastructure.

You will oversee CAPEX execution, coordinate cross-functional teams across Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain and external partners, and ensure projects meet safety, schedule and budget targets.

Qualifications

• 5+ years delivering manufacturing capital projects in FMCG, food, pharma, medical device or similar.
• Experience managing CAPEX projects involving manufacturing equipment installation and process implementation.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and ability to create/update layouts and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead capital projects from concept, design and planning through to construction, installation, commissioning and handover.
• Develop and manage project execution plans, schedules, budgets, resources, risks, issues and change control.
• Act as the manufacturing engineering lead to ensure facility and project decisions support production needs.
• Define manufacturing process requirements, equipment requirements, layouts, workflow and material flow.
• Develop/update manufacturing equipment layouts, process layouts and technical drawings using AutoCAD.
• Coordinate equipment vendors, system integrators, contractors and consultants during project execution.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, validation and handover activities.
• Ensure new equipment and processes are transitioned into production with operational readiness.

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Projects Engineer to join the Engineering function of a growing manufacturing organisation in Drogheda.

This is a key role within a major capital investment and expansion programme, with responsibility for leading manufacturing-focused projects from concept and design through to installation, commissioning and operational handover.

The successful candidate will take a lead role in the delivery of new manufacturing processes, production equipment, packaging systems, automation and supporting infrastructure, working closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, H&S and external contractors and suppliers.

The role would suit an experienced project or manufacturing engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of significant CAPEX projects and understands how to translate manufacturing requirements into practical equipment, process and facility solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead capital projects from concept, design and planning through to construction, equipment installation, commissioning and operational handover.
• Develop and manage project execution plans, schedules, budgets, resources, risks, issues and change control.
• Act as the manufacturing engineering lead, ensuring facility and project decisions support current and future production requirements.
• Define manufacturing process requirements, equipment requirements, layouts, workflow and material flow.
• Develop, review and update manufacturing equipment layouts, process layouts and technical drawings using AutoCAD.
• Support line balancing, throughput, capacity, reliability and process efficiency improvements.
• Lead the installation and integration of manufacturing equipment, packaging equipment, automation, robotics, utilities and supporting systems.
• Coordinate equipment vendors, system integrators, contractors and consultants throughout project execution.
• Support and coordinate FAT, SAT, commissioning, validation and equipment handover activities.
• Ensure new equipment and processes are successfully transitioned into production with appropriate operational readiness.
• Coordinate facility extension and construction activities alongside external architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical partners.
• Manage project budgets, forecasts, capital expenditure and financial reporting.
• Develop business cases and contribute to capital planning and longer-term engineering investment strategies.
• Maintain project risk registers and identify and mitigate potential issues at an early stage.
• Provide regular project updates to senior leadership and relevant project governance groups.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams across Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement and H&S.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, reliability, capacity and engineering capability.
• Support additional strategic CAPEX and engineering projects across the site as required.

About You

We are looking for an experienced manufacturing project professional with a strong combination of CAPEX project delivery, manufacturing engineering and equipment implementation experience.

You should have:

• At least 5 years' experience delivering manufacturing capital projects within FMCG, food, pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer goods or a similar manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience managing CAPEX projects involving manufacturing equipment installation and process implementation.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, including the ability to create, review and update manufacturing equipment layouts, process layouts and technical drawings.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, production systems and process engineering.
• Experience managing equipment installation, commissioning and operational handover.
• Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contractors, suppliers and cross-functional teams.
• Strong project management, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to work effectively in a live manufacturing environment where projects must be delivered while minimising disruption to ongoing production.
• A Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Process, Automation Engineering or a related discipline is preferred. Significant relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of a formal qualification.

Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:

• Facility expansion or greenfield/brownfield manufacturing projects.
• High-volume or highly automated manufacturing and packaging environments.
• Robotics, automated material handling, AGVs or machine vision.
• Industry 4.0 and digital manufacturing technologies.
