Qualifications

Senior Mechanical Project Engineer

We are currently partnering with a leading M&E and building services contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join their growing Dublin team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Mechanical Engineer looking to take greater ownership of technically complex projects while developing towards Mechanical Project Management.

You'll work across major data centre, pharmaceutical, commercial and industrial projects, providing the technical link between design, procurement, construction and commissioning.

With continued growth and a substantial project pipeline, they are strengthening their mechanical engineering team with an experienced Senior Project Engineer.

The Role

As Senior Mechanical Project Engineer, you'll take technical responsibility for mechanical packages throughout the project lifecycle.

Working alongside Project Managers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams, you'll ensure systems are correctly designed, coordinated, procured, installed and commissioned in accordance with project requirements.

You'll also represent the mechanical team during client and design meetings, giving you significant exposure to both technical and project management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the mechanical project team at client, design and progress meetings
  • Review mechanical specifications, drawings and schedules
  • Develop a detailed understanding of project scope and programme requirements
  • Carry out technical design reviews and identify potential issues before construction
  • Ensure mechanical installations comply with drawings, specifications and industry standards
  • Develop alternative engineering solutions where required
  • Produce calculations, sketches and technical information for client approval
  • Review coordinated construction drawings
  • Identify design changes, scope variations and potential cost implications
  • Communicate variations to Project Managers and commercial teams
  • Raise and manage technical queries and RFIs
  • Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors and specialist suppliers
  • Provide technical support to site teams throughout construction

You'll play a key role in ensuring mechanical equipment and specialist packages are technically compliant and procured in line with the project programme.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and managing technical submittals
  • Developing and monitoring procurement schedules
  • Reviewing specialist supplier packages
  • Ensuring equipment complies with project specifications and design intent
  • Coordinating technical information with procurement teams
  • Identifying long-lead equipment and potential programme risks
  • Supporting supplier and subcontractor technical reviews

You'll also support projects through the final stages of delivery, including:

  • Preparing project-specific commissioning plans
  • Coordinating testing and commissioning requirements
  • Supporting snagging and close-out
  • Coordinating BCAR inspection requirements with quality teams
  • Ensuring project documentation is completed correctly
  • Supporting final client handover
The Candidate

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong technical background in building services or M&E contracting.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 4+ years' relevant industry experience
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services
  • Experience reviewing mechanical drawings and specifications
  • Good understanding of mechanical design and construction
  • Experience coordinating mechanical packages through project delivery
  • Strong technical and diagnostic ability
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • Good understanding of relevant mechanical regulations and safety standards
  • Previous experience with an M&E or mechanical contractor
  • Experience on large-scale mechanical projects
  • Data centre or pharmaceutical experience
  • Experience managing technical submittals and procurement schedules
  • Commissioning experience
  • Knowledge of BIM and coordinated construction processes
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
