Job summary

Lever, Inc. represents a partner company hiring a Backend Engineer (PHP) in Ireland. You will build and evolve backend services in a high-scale microservices environment powering a global digital gaming marketplace.

You will work with GraphQL, Golang, Temporal, and standard service design patterns, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable products and own technical challenges from investigation to delivery.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including hands-on work building and scaling distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in PHP and Symfony, with experience working with modern versions of the framework.
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and common distributed-system patterns such as CQRS, circuit breaking, and service orchestration.
• Experience with databases/data stores like MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Prometheus, InfluxDB, or Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with cloud and infrastructure technologies such as Kubernetes, Helm, AWS, and Terraform.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, scale, and maintain reliable backend services using PHP and Symfony within a large microservices architecture.
• Develop and deliver product features with scalability, performance, reliability, and user experience in mind.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and shape technical solutions for distributed-system challenges.
• Collaborate with frontend, mobile, design, data, and platform teams to deliver high-quality products.
• Improve engineering practices, code quality, observability, and system resilience across the tech stack.
