Lever, Inc. seeks a Backend Engineer based in Ireland to join a small, ambitious team building technology that powers financial insights for hundreds of thousands of users.

You will develop and own the central API and backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, focusing on API design, data modeling, performance, and developer experience. You will collaborate closely with frontend, design, and product teams in a fully remote, asynchronous environment, taking end-to-end ownership of backend

Qualifications

• Experience building large-scale, scalable APIs and backend systems.
• Strong API design and data modeling skills.
• Expertise in Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Redis, or Kafka.
• High standards for stability, developer experience, performance, and code quality.
• Proven end-to-end ownership across technologies, services, and teams.
• Strong communication in German and English in a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Nice to have: financial/stock market/cryptocurrency data experience.
• Nice to have: LLMs and AI agents experience.
• Nice to have: backend systems for data dashboards/visualization.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain the central API and backends using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Build fast, efficient services delivering data and calculations with great developer experience.
• Design intuitive APIs and data models that abstract complexity for internal developers and users.
• Scale backend systems and infrastructure while maintaining reliability and performance.
• Own MVPs and experimental work to validate new ideas.
• Treat the internal API as a product with focus on stability, usability, and evolution.
• Debug production issues across the stack to ensure a robust foundation.
• Continuously improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
• Collaborate with frontend, design, and product teams in a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Take end-to-end ownership of projects across technologies and teams.
