Job summary

Camunda is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, to join our Distributed Systems team. You will help build a durable, highly available streaming platform that powers Camunda 8’s orchestration cluster and supports customers globally.

You will tackle challenging projects like expanding our multi‑Raft implementation, SWIM cluster management, and high‑performance I/O pipelines, while partnering with product, design, QA, and sales to evolve the platform.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with backend/distributed systems.
• Proven ability to lead medium‑to‑large engineering initiatives (3+ months) and deliver with multiple teams.
• Strong autonomous problem solving and ability to navigate ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for Camunda 8's orchestration platform.
• Lead end‑to‑end engineering initiatives and drive timely delivery.
• Improve disaster recovery, multi‑region and multi‑tenant capabilities for cloud.
• Develop tooling to operate and troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Core teams to improve CI, testing, and development workflows.
• Contribute to on‑call rotations and incident response improvements.
