Job summary

Partner Company, listed by Jobgether, seeks a Staff Backend Engineer in a remote-first setup to design, build, and scale backend systems and development infrastructure for a high-traffic integration platform.

You will own critical services end-to-end, collaborate with customers, contribute to open-source projects, and guide architectural decisions in a distributed engineering team across Europe, North America, and LATAM.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend software engineering experience for a Staff-level position.
• Deep expertise in backend engineering, developer infrastructure, APIs, databases, and performance-critical systems.
• Hands-on experience with Node.js and modern backend technologies.
• Proven experience designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend services and distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of API design, developer tooling, software architecture, and developer experiences.
• Genuine interest in developer infrastructure, integrations, open-source software, and improving developer workflows.
• Strong product mindset and developer empathy with customer/business outcome focus.
• Experience working directly with customers or users to investigate challenges and develop solutions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• High ownership, autonomy, and reliability; comfortable in a remote-first startup environment.
• Willingness to work from Netherlands or other eligible location in Europe, North America, or LATAM.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale backend systems, APIs, and services for a developer-focused integration platform.
• Develop high-quality developer interfaces, including APIs, SDKs, UI, and backend runtimes for a great experience.
• Own initiatives end-to-end from ideation to deployment and improvement.
• Collaborate with developer customers to understand challenges and translate feedback into product improvements.
• Optimize services for performance, scalability, reliability, and resilience as usage grows.
• Influence technical roadmap and product strategy through ownership of architectural decisions.
• Contribute to and maintain open-source projects and engage with the developer community.
• Provide technical leadership and support for other engineers.
