Camunda is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to Camunda 8's Core/API & Process Automation. You’ll work on an event-sourced, distributed workflow engine powering thousands of customers and millions of people.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, especially in distributed systems.
• Deep knowledge of event sourcing, replay, and correctness in distributed execution.
• Strong API design and evolution skills with contract-first thinking.
• Diagnosing and fixing performance under production load with profiling.
• Technical leadership from ambiguity, autonomous work, and mentoring others.
• Clear communication, async ADRs, and strong product sense in remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve the event-sourced engine and its REST/gRPC/MCP API with backward-compatible changes.
• Lead hard, ambiguous problems end-to-end, define problems, and drive delivery.
• Ship high-impact engine features rapidly while maintaining high quality.
• Deliver resiliency, schema evolution, and observability for safe upgrades.
• Identify and fix inefficient data access patterns across RocksDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Postgres.
• Grow the team, lead incidents, conduct high-quality reviews, and own root-cause analyses.
