Job summary

Mastercard is seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer (L5) to lead technology and architectural efforts within the BET organization in Ireland. You will embed within the BET Sourcing and Delivery team to shape opportunities, drive technical feasibility, and influence cross-functional partners across product, engineering, and business domains.

The role requires deep experience building production-scale systems, strong backend skills, and a mindset for scalable, secure architectures.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of full-stack engineering in an agile environment.
Strong backend experience with Java, Kotlin, Python, or Scala.
Ability to influence both business opportunities and technical direction.
Experience with AI, LLMs, or agent frameworks is a plus.

Responsibilities

Serve as the senior technology and architecture advisor for new business opportunities, ensuring feasibility and architecture alignment.
Partner with product, business, sourcing, and engineering teams to shape hypotheses, solution concepts, and business cases.
Assess opportunities and risks early; provide clear technical recommendations for build, buy, or partnership decisions.
Mentor engineers, influence engineering standards, and contribute to architectural decisions.
