Job summary

Mastercard seeks an L5 Principal Engineer within Business Expansion & Transformation (BET) to lead technical strategy for new opportunities, embedded in BET sourcing and delivery. You will influence architecture, feasibility, and candidate solutions across diverse teams.

Expect to guide build vs buy decisions, mitigate technical risks, and mentor engineers while scaling AI-enabled capabilities in a secure, scalable cloud environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of full-stack engineering in agile environments.
• Strong backend experience with Java, Kotlin, Python, or Scala.
• Experience leading large technical features across teams and systems.
• Understand APIs, services, distributed systems and security.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technology and architecture advisor for new opportunities.
• Collaborate with product, business, sourcing and engineering to shape hypotheses and concepts.
• Assess build, partner, invest, acquire or discontinue pathways with recommendations.
• Identify risks early and guide architecture decisions during incubation and scale.
• Mentor engineers and influence engineering standards and decisions.
