Job summary

Mastercard is seeking a Principal Engineer (L5) within the Business Expansion & Transformation (BET) organization to lead technology direction for sourcing and delivery of new business opportunities. You will partner with product, engineering and business teams to shape viable concepts and scalable technical solutions.

You will guide architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure compliance with security, reliability, and scale requirements across complex, data-driven platforms, including

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of full-stack engineering in agile environments.
• Strong backend experience with Java, Kotlin, Python, or similar.
• Experience leading design and implementation of large, multi-team features.
• Knowledge of APIs, distributed systems, and enterprise-grade architecture.
• Experience with security, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience building/integrating AI/LLM-based systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technology and architecture advisor for new opportunities.
• Collaborate with product, sourcing, and engineering to shape concepts and business cases.
• Assess build, partner, invest, or acquire options and provide technical recommendations.
• Mentor engineers and influence architecture standards.
• Define target-state architectures and ensure security and scale requirements.
