Job summary

Mastercard Ireland seeks an L5 Principal Engineer to lead as a technology leader embedded in BET, driving opportunities from ideation to scale. You will influence architecture decisions, evaluate options, and collaborate across product, business, and engineering teams to deliver high-impact results.

You will mentor engineers, shape technical standards, and ensure solutions meet reliability, security, and performance requirements in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of distributed, production-grade software engineering in agile environments.
• Experience designing large, cross-team features and platforms.
• Strong APIs, services, asynchronous workflows and distributed systems knowledge.
• Experience with LLMs, AI services, agent frameworks and orchestration.
• Cloud technologies and data platforms for scalable data workloads.
• Mentor engineers, influence standards, and collaborate across geographies.
• Excellent communication to explain technical concepts to business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technology and architecture advisor for new opportunities.
• Partner with product, business, sourcing, and engineering to shape hypotheses and feasibility.
• Assess build vs buy and provide clear technical recommendations.
• Guide architecture decisions during incubation, prototyping, and scale.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to shared engineering standards.
