Job summary

Blue Forge Recruitment partners with a leading Irish convenience retailer in Co Laois, seeking an experienced Assistant Manager to drive fresh food standards and day-to-day store operations. The role requires 3-4 years in fresh food retail management and a background in ordering.

You will lead a team, manage stock, hygiene, and promotions while maintaining high service standards. A valid transport is preferred due to location, with salary €36,000–€40,000 and a €2k bonus.

Qualifications

• 3-4 years of fresh food retail management experience within a professional, fast-paced retail environment, ideally in a premium or high-standard store.
• Food safety and hygiene management experience, ideally certified
• Strong commercial awareness, with experience monitoring sales, achieving targets, and improving KPIs.
• Strong organisational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a demanding retail environment.
• Experience in stock control, inventory management, cash handling, loss prevention, and daily store operations.
• The ability to work independently, take initiative, and support the Store Manager in making effective day-to-day decisions.
• A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.

Responsibilities

• Support the Store Manager in the overall management and smooth day-to-day operation of a busy, professional, high-standard retail store.
• Monitor sales performance, analyse results, and implement strategies to achieve and exceed store targets and KPIs.
• Oversee stock management, including deliveries, replenishment, stock takes, inventory accuracy, and loss prevention.
• Support the implementation of promotional campaigns, product launches, and commercial initiatives to maximise sales opportunities.
• Manage cash handling, till operations, banking procedures, and end-of-day reconciliations in line with company policies.
• Ensure full compliance with company procedures, health and safety regulations, security standards, and operational guidelines.
• Assist with staff scheduling, shift planning, and the effective allocation of resources to maintain smooth operations during busy trading periods.
• Lead by example, fostering a positive, professional, and customer-focused team culture while maintaining consistently high retail standards.

We aredelighted to be working with a highly regarded Irish convenience retail brand located in a busy and thriving town in Co Laois. This store is known for its commitment to quality, customer service and is a community retailer that stands out for their fresh food offering.

Our client is seeking an experienced and passionate retailer who has 2- 3 years in Retail Management and ideally has a background in fresh food ordering.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to drive sales, drive standards particularly in fresh, lead and motivate a team in the fresh food areas, oversee day-to-day running of fresh food orders, hygiene management, waste control and the deli operation, including general shop management.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a thriving business, that is in growth and regularly achieving store audits and awards.

The store is located only on a 20 mins drive from Portlaoise, 20 minutes' drive from Kildare town and 30 mins from both Tullamore and Edenderry. Candidates with their own transport are preferred due to the location.
