Job summary

Twilio Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Voice Connectivity Trust team. You will own real-time services, design scalable distributed solutions, and collaborate with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams in a distributed production environment.

The role emphasizes hands-on Java work, CI/CD optimization, on-call incident response, and leveraging AI tools to deliver value while ensuring security and performance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in a large scale, distributed applications environment on JVM based technologies.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
• Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, OS and distributed systems.
• Experience building RESTful services, API design and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS).
• Hands-on experience designing and driving CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with on-call rotations, incident response, monitoring/alerting (Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana).
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, OpenStack or Azure.
• Excellent written communication skills for technical documentation (with/without AI).
• Proven ability to evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Hands-on Java experience with strong fundamentals and architectural review ability.
• Experience with AI coding assistants (Claude, Copilot, Cursor).
• Experience scaling data tiers with SQL/NoSQL and caching technologies.
• Experience scaling production backend systems for horizontal scalability.

Responsibilities

• Document thoughts and designs clearly for collaboration with leads and teams.
• Scale a distributed platform with global presence ensuring high availability and performance.
