Job summary

Twilio is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the Voice Connectivity Trust team. The role involves owning real‑time services in a distributed production environment, collaborating with Product Managers, architects and cross‑functional teams across the lifecycle from design to on‑call support.

You will design scalable, low‑latency systems, work with stakeholders to meet customer needs, and contribute to architectural decisions while mentoring peers and embracing AI tooling to enhance coding

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of hands‑on experience in a large scale, distributed applications environment on JVM based technologies.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
• Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.
• Experience building RESTful services and API design; event‑driven architectures (Kafka, SQS).
• Hands‑on experience designing and driving CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with on‑call rotations, incident response, monitoring/alerting tools (Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana).
• Hands‑on with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, OpenStack or Azure.
• Excellent written communication skills for technical documentation (with or without AI).
• Proven ability to critically evaluate AI‑generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Hands‑on Java experience with strong fundamentals; able to architect, review, and debug code.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and workflows.
• Experience scaling data tiers with SQL/NoSQL databases and caching technologies.
• Experience scaling production backend systems; design and develop horizontally scalable, resilient systems.
• Strong team collaborator; capable of mentoring and driving architectural decisions.
