Job summary

DB Recruitment is seeking an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to join a leading main contractor in Galway. You will take ownership of the commercial management of the project, collaborating with the Project Manager and Contracts Manager to drive value and protect margins.

Responsibilities include cost control, forecasting, valuations, change management, sub-contractor procurement and final accounts, with opportunities for guidance to junior staff in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying or related.
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a main contracting environment.
  • Strong cost control, forecasting, valuations and final accounts.
  • Experience with contract administration and claims.
  • Excellent numeracy, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication with clients and subcontractors.
  • Experience using CostX, SAP or similar systems would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for project cost management, forecasting, cash flow and commercial reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain project budgets, cost reports, CVRs, commitments and cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Re-measure trade packages and prepare tender enquiries, Bills of Quantities and subcontract packages.
  • Manage the subcontract procurement process, including tendering, analysis, negotiation and appointment.
  • Carry out value engineering, cost analysis and commercial risk assessments.
  • Administer subcontract agreements, payments, variations and final accounts.
  • Prepare, submit and agree monthly valuations and payment applications with the client.
  • Manage change control and variations, ensuring changes are identified, notified, costed and recovered.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and contractual documentation to protect project entitlement.
  • Support the Contracts/Project Manager with contract administration, claims and Extension of Time submissions.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, costs and progress and ensure project margins are protected.
  • Prepare and agree subcontractor and main contract final accounts and manage commercial close-out.
  • Work closely with the wider project team to ensure commercial, programme and contractual objectives are achieved.
  • Where required, provide guidance and support to Junior/Assistant Quantity Surveyors.

Project Quantity Surveyor - Galway

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to join a leading main contractor and work on exciting, large-scale construction projects in Galway.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the commercial management of a project, working closely with the Project Manager, Contracts Manager and wider project team.

The Role

As Project Quantity Surveyor, you will have responsibility for the financial and commercial management of your project, including subcontract procurement, cost control, forecasting, valuations, change management and final accounts.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
  • Third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contracting environment.
  • Strong experience in subcontract procurement, tender analysis and commercial management.
  • Excellent knowledge of cost control, forecasting, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Experience with contract administration and claims.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and contractual entitlement.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors and project teams.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take ownership of commercial outcomes.
  • Experience using CostX, SAP or similar commercial management systems would be advantageous.
