Job summary

Coffey in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, is seeking an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to oversee the financial performance of a major construction project, delivering end-to-end cost control, budgeting, and commercial reporting.

Reporting to the Commercial Lead, you will manage subcontractor procurement, variations, payments, and risk mitigation, collaborating with clients and design teams to align financial objectives with delivery milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • 4–7 years' experience in civil/ commercial building projects.
  • Expertise in cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Strong contract administration knowledge and current main contract conditions.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with strong financial acumen.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and clear communication.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control and monitoring expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Lead subcontractor procurement and management activities, including contract negotiations, progress assessments, valuations and payment administration.
  • Prepare and maintain commercial reporting, financial analysis and project performance information for senior management.

  • Identify, assess and mitigate commercial risks to protect project outcomes and profitability.
  • Collaborate with clients, design teams, project partners and internal stakeholders to ensure financial objectives align with milestones.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Maynooth, Co. Kildare. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the commercial success of a significant construction project, providing end-to-end financial oversight, subcontractor management and cost control.

Reporting to the Commercial Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring robust financial performance, managing commercial risk and delivering accurate reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control and monitoring expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Lead subcontractor procurement and management activities, including contract negotiations, progress assessments, valuations and payment administration.
  • Prepare and maintain commercial reporting, financial analysis and project performance information for senior management.
  • Administer contracts including variations, claims, change management and agreement of final accounts.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate commercial risks to protect project outcomes and profitability.
  • Collaborate with clients, design teams, project partners and internal stakeholders to ensure financial objectives align with project milestones and delivery requirements.
Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • 4 to 7 years' experience within civil engineering and/or commercial building construction projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting and project cost control.
  • Strong understanding of contract administration and current main contract conditions.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with strong financial and accounting knowledge.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across project teams and stakeholders.
Desirable Requirements
  • Chartered or working towards SCSI Chartership.
  • Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or design and build projects.
  • Knowledge of financial management systems such as Candy Estimating System and IFS.
  • Estimating experience and familiarity with Candy Estimating Software.
