Your new employer is an established Irish M&E contractor delivering mechanical, electrical, HVAC and maintenance services across Ireland.
With an in-house team of engineers, CAD and BIM professionals, the company delivers projects across the commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, healthcare and fit-out sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are now looking to add an experienced Mechanical Estimator to their Dublin team.
Your New Role
As Mechanical Estimator, you will support projects from the initial tender stage through to contract award and procurement. You will prepare accurate and competitive tenders for a variety of mechanical building services projects while working closely with the wider estimating, commercial and project teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing tender documents, specifications, drawings and contract requirements.
- Completing detailed take-offs for mechanical services and associated materials.
- Preparing accurate cost estimates, Bills of Quantities and schedules of rates.
- Issuing enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors and assessing returned quotations.
- Comparing quotations based on price, technical compliance and suitability.
- Identifying value-engineering opportunities and potential commercial risks.
- Preparing construction budgets and final tender submissions within agreed deadlines.
- Liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process.
- Supporting procurement following contract award.
- Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
- Identifying long-lead and high-value items that may affect the project programme.
- Issuing and tracking purchase orders through to delivery on site.
- Assisting with spend management and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Maintaining accurate tender, procurement and commercial documentation.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Approximately one to five years' experience in mechanical estimating, procurement or a similar M&E building services position.
- A strong understanding of mechanical building services, including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation and pipework systems.
- Experience completing detailed take-offs and preparing tender documentation.
- The ability to accurately interpret technical drawings, specifications and contract documents.
- Strong knowledge of Bills of Quantities, schedules of rates and construction budgets.
- Confident Excel skills and experience using estimating or take-off software.
- Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
- Excellent negotiation skills and experience securing competitive supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- The ability to manage several tenders and competing deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to liaise with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Current and valid authorisation to work in Ireland.
